Bought item mistakenly

  • Really ???

So although the OP admits they bought by mistake, the seller loses their FVF, Paypal fees and postage costs.

Admittedly, the seller is being inflexible, but why should they have to pay for the buyer's mistake ?

It's what buyers do all the time. I'm not saying it's right - any seller worth their salt would go for a mutual cancellation but that's what happens.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I have two accounts with feedback totalling over 8000, and I have never had a buyer do this. If this is widespread, then it's about time Ebay starting suspending some buyers.

Charlie's mum - I do know my views are forthright sometimes but you can see why I think buyers, as well as sellers, need to show some sort of understanding - maybe take a small trial video demonstration, before being allowed to have an ebay account.

This morning alone we have someone who allowed a sister to bid and now wants to pull out, and now this thread. Selling is hard enough in a recession and I do appreciate buyers have rights under UK law, but it is sellers that suffer.

The idea as well that because seller refuses to allow a cancellation (which a private seller is perfectly entitled to do) that they are punished with low stars I find astounding.

It's never happened to me either - nor have I ever done it.

But I read the threads on here from sellers who it does happen to. and it seems to happen loads.

I wasn't saying that was correct, just adding to the 2 options given in the post above mine. As it is an option that people seem to take.

I totally agree. My reply says that I don't see why the seller should be out of pocket when the OP admits that they bought in error.

  • Surely if a cancellation is agreed, the buyer will get his value fee credited back to him anyway?

I've paid for it, but if he is still unhelpful I may have to play a bit dirtier. Buyers have rights as well as sellers as he probably knows.

    Thanks for the replies.

The problem is that you know that 'you' would agree to a mutual, but how does the seller know that?. From the point of view of a seller the buyer checks item, bids or confirms a BIN purchase by mistake- so how can they be trusted to agree a mutual?

Also if you play dirty it may well affect your account, stars are not anonymous and a complaint to ebay about malicious bidding can usually get things sorted out

It would never have occurred to me to try to back out of any purchase I made on ebay. If I did ever make a mistake I would just re-list it myself.
The op has a problem and seems to think that they can best solve it by making it the sellers problem. Which part of 'no returns' did they not understand.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
