Rombomb I have been reading your thread with interest as I too am on IB because of my Osteo/Arthritis, I have had one hip-replacement and the other is on the way I just have to say the word when I cannot manage the pain and they will replace that too... I do not claim DLA either and I was interested to read some of the posts suggesting that it was possible , I do have problems mobilising but I do manage most things if I just take my time....
Tell your wife she is welcome to PM me if she has any questions re the hip surgery or anything related.... Good news re your IB well done....:T#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Not quite with you there, could you elaborate? Eager_elephant thought the appeal was unsuccesfull.
Sorry rombomb, I misread Ee's post a little but I am not sure if I am correct (I may be totally wrong) but although you were successful, is it possible as your wife has deteriorated (and the appeal was for before her deterioration) that you can make a fresh claim for higher care rate or mobility rate?
I'm sure someone who knows better will come along and put me right.0 -
Well done on winning the appeal, you must be so relieved its overWeight Loss - 102lb0

Sorry rombomb - my post was because I thought you had lost the appeal.
As an aside to this a couple of months ago I helped someone with an incapacity appeal and the examiners report from the PCA was laughable - he said X can get in and out of the shower easily - Mr X does not even have a shower he has a bath.
Also X does the weekly shopping with his wife - in fact Mr X has not done the shopping for a few years and his wife does it all.
Maybe this was not helped by not having an interpreter even though one was requested - we made sure we had one with the appeal. It took absolutely ages to translate!!!

Thanks all, very relieved that its all over, the last six months have been very difficult. It's been a stressful day and we're hitting the sack now, but I'll be back tomorrow to reply indicidually to all, and where PM is requested it'll be via PM.
Thanks, goodnight.0 -
My wife is starting to feel a lot more relaxed now, she's been treated to a nice hot bath, a dose of painkillers and a wee glass of Asti.
The experience has been very traumatic for her, quite a stressful day all round, but again I must say they were all very polite and matter of fact, unlike the previous assessment.
noggin, do you mind if my wife PMs you to ask about your hip replacement ops and experience(s) since?

Oooooooooops, typo as explained above.
My wife did actually WIN the appeal and is NOW back on IB!
And it was not a bad experience at all, both men were extremely pleasant unlike the DWP's previous examiner.
That is great!!!
I know what a relief it will be for you, I went through this last year. Like your wife I should have scored well over 15 but didn't, this is happening to more and more people, just awful.0 -

Its all down to Tony Blairs targets for getting people off IB!
I asked at the tribunal if they could refund the £60 that I had to fork out to my wife's practice to get the GP examination and letter.
The lawyer stated that he was afraid that there is no allowance for this and that it was a good job that I had the money to pay for it!
Thanks to advice on this thread, my wife has now phoned to get the DLA application form.0 -
It's been a week now since the appeal tribunal overturned the previous verdict. Haven't heard a Dicky Bird from the DWP, and phoning gets me batted from pillar to post.
Has anyone got any idea how long until they might get in contact, based on previous experience?0 -
If you are waiting for a DLA form it shouldn't be long, but once you have filled it in they state on the letter that if you haven't heard within 8 weeks you should phone them. I had to fill one in for renewal, sent it in August but it was December before I got the decision.0
