Best thing you can do is report them to your provider and let them clamp down on the senders. If there are texts which go ''text back on 87342 to stop the texts'' I would check to see whether they say you'll be charged. Unfortunately there isn't a systematic way of blocking off sms messages off your phone WITHOUT informing your providers.

    HTH.

ps, nothing wrong with being a newbie mate, everyone has to start from somewhere!! :)

Nothing is unsolicited, you must have given them your number at some point.

All service providers can do is see who it is sending them (once you give them the text number it was sent from).

So an easier way is to note down the number that sent the sms and do a quick google on it and it should list who the company is (and no doubt others peoples posts asking how to stop it), once you have found the company and their website then on their site it will tell you how to stop them, probably at the bottom of the page or in small print as ofcourse they dont want you to cancel.

If you can't find the company then your better of getting a new number. Basically all your provider can do is tell you who they are once you've gien them the senders number.

    Good luck.

The TPS deals with phone calls not SMS marketing.

    Which network are you with?

Orange have a spam text number (7726) which you can forward text messages to and I presume they can then block the number from their network so other people aren't bombarded with them. Perhaps other networks will have something similar.

No some companies phone or text mobile numbers blind with a view to selling services eg mobile phone insurance.

Yeah but mainly they are from companies that you have used or are affiliated with them, if you've ordered a ringtone for example, dont be suprised 9 months down the line to get some promo sms and wonder where they have come from.

But yeah i agree some companies do just make them up and hope to get a real number and a mug :D
  • I have a PAYG on O2. I frequently receive SMS web links to !!!!!! sites and all sorts of crap. There is no reply number or sender number sent with the texts so we dont even know whose sending them.
I've never used any of these 'services' or registered my number with anyone. My daughter has used the phone to enter text competitions and stuff like that.
What can I do to get rid????
May just have to replace the sim card.

Does this number work for both contract phones as well as PAYG?

If there is no number or company name then you really have no choice but to get a new sim/number.

They could be affiliated with the company your daughter entered the competition with.

If it's really bothering you, it's not worth the hassle, just get a new sim, new number and don't let your daughter enter anymore competitions lol
