Also out of interest - 10 years ago when you were young....

Why did you need to borrow £17,000 out of desperation?

Well I really don't know why you are giving me two words back, although I do sincerely thank you for them.

As you say, you paid the loans back without any problems so where does 'responsible lending' come into this?

Or are you just pointing out how well the bank did with responsible lending? I am sure they will appreciate it.

I took out loans myself when I was young and stupid for car finance. In 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1998. I was only 19 with the first one, pretty young. But what I did do was check all the T&C's of the loans and when I was happy with what it said - I signed them. If i didn't agree with what they said, I wouldn't have signed them, even with shiny new cars waiting at the end.

My words are free, your thanks are welcomed :)

Well your clearly were a wiser person than me checking all your t&C :T, and i hope you enjoyed your vehicles.

And as i've mentioned in my other replies, i did payback all the money, but by no means was it easy and it caused me many problems and alot of issues in other areas of finance and my life in general for your information. And i was refused the initial application (whether it be underwriters or halifax themsleves) for a reason, as it was not responsible to lend me the amount i wanted, all Halifax did was find a loophole so they could be sure they got there money. So to be clear for you as i can be i do not feel it was responsible of Halifax to give me the money. Whether or not i was wise or aware enough to understand the commitments involved, they should still never of given it me in my opinion.

Pretty irrelevant to my initial question, but be assured it wasn't for a shiny new car or some lads holiday abroad.

So really in summary - you were desperate to borrow £17k for something. You paid it all back without any problems or lots of problems depending on what reply we use. Then 10 years later it was all the Halifax's fault?

Ok. no problem. I believe like many that come on here, you will only agree with the answer that you want to hear so there is no real point with this is there?

    Hold on....

    Mis-sold the loans?

You asked them for £17k. They didn't force you to borrow this money or push you in to a higher sum. Nor did they hide the fact it was 2 loans... having been refused a single loan of £17k you was fully aware of how it was being done!
  • Thanks to all that posted replies so quickly, not the friendliest forum ive been on to say the least.

I was trying to defend what started off as a inquiry into whether i had been as i put it 'mis-sold' which probably wasn't the correct terminology for the situation that had occured. I was purely asking if i had been ripped off in some way or form. As to the relevance of the initial loan, that for me was a personal family matter. And being judged by those who must be much wiser than me is not why i asked the original question. I'm not out for an easy few quid i was just asking if anything underhand had gone on here. I think ill seek professional advice where they wont 'tell me off' like im some sort of idiot.

    Thanks for your warming welcome.

Professional advice may cost - we are free :D

I think you need to stand up here, be the big guy and admit your mistakes of the past and then move on.

You asked for, you signed, you got, you repaid. Surely that is the end of it?

What you think of me doesn't matter to me, you should learn to keep your personal opinions about someone you know little about to yourself and if you wish to be helpful learn to just reply in a less personal, aggressive and condescending manner.

I think you need to re-read. Just because my answers were not the ones you wanted to hear doesn't mean you need to play the victim card.
