Super duper dishwasher tablets!

I've just got a dishwasher after a long time without one. I had filled the salt and rinse aid dispensers before buying the tablets. Bought 45 3 in 1 tabs from Lidl (Adritt) for £2.99 which I thought was good after checking out Tesco and Finish (even with their half price offer on at the moment).“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

My dishwasher won't work unless the salt + rinse aid sections are full. At least I buy the cheapest powder.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

We try to find the old basic tablets and then split them in half (tip gained from an earlier thread!) However sometimes Mr T only has those with a ball in the middle - and I can't split those! So, whenever we find originals we tend to stock up! Also use basic powder, but not so easy to figure out the minimum amount needed to do the job adequately.Resolution:

I did try stardrops-about 10ml but I will use less next time. Still got some costcutter original tablets to use up and then I shall revery to Lidl dishwasher powder. I still do not get it-what "advantage" are some people getting, using the 5 in one tabs along with the other stuf?? Ive found no better results. Stardrops were fine by the way-clean with no nasty smell.
My avatar has to be dishwasher friendly so I hope its not chrystal! ;+) but better that than "cutlery" as someone called it!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
Ok thick alert here!
I use Finish tablets from Netto and nowt else. But if I was to use anything else where do you put your salt and rinse aid? I just throw my tablet into the bottom and forget about it!
Plus any cheap tips for cleaning the dishwasher we get a lot of lime scale in our area and those cleaners cost a pretty penny?0 -
There should be a dispenser in the front dropdown panel. Or just chuck in the powder like you do with the tablet! After all-it dissolvs into-powder. Rinseaid dispenser also built into front panel. Salt goes in the bottom of the machine-large screwtop which undoes and you fill up with dishwasher salt. We also suffer from lots of limescale but I found it less when I didnt use the all in one tablets. Thats where you need the salt.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

I used stardrops and it made the glasses really sparkle! but wasn't so good on mugs that had been used for tea. I have a water softener so don't put salt in the machine, I've tried most brands and have to say I prefer lidls powder from the lot, I do use rinse aid also lidls. I prefer the powder as you don't have to wait for the tablets or whatever to 'melt' it starts working straight away. I don't use as much as they recommend either, it comes in a big 'bottle' and lasts ages!0

OK dishwasher experts, any idea why my dishwasher often leaves a lingering smell of wet dog on my stuff? I've got salt in and clean it so it is sparkly but at least half of the washes have this disgusting smell left on the plates and cups when the wash is finished.
Tried lots of different tablets as well.0 -

I clean mine with a finish dishwasher cleaner to flush the pipes i believe they are over hlaf price at tesco at the minute. Now i have read about the vinegar i may not need to as vinegar is apparently good for cleaning pipes too i use it in my washer every 3 months and it stops all nasty odours in there too.
I have used start drops for years and never knew i coud do that, i did buy a box of tablets from netto Finish 64 tablest for £3.99. Not bad really. You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
