cafcfan - yes, I did manage it! Well, £240 over budget in August (and similar before...), and only £5 over budget in September :) Well done me :)

And yes, the £4.92 was out of my weekly £10 :)

Not much planned for the rest of the week, so should stick within budget :) However, I'm considering giving up my part time job to get PhD finished quicker - I know it won't help the debt, but that's only £1300, I'm paying off more than the minimum payment, and not increasing it, and once I've finished the PhD, I can w(rk full time...

    Hmm

    Good luck all, keep going!

    Oh Dear, Oh Lor!!

    What has happened??
has the unnecessary challenge become unnecessary?
I thought it was just me who hadn't been around for a while due to many, many reasons, but when I managed to check in today it seems our good old trusty thread is falling by the wayside a little.

I need a good boost of what's necessary and what's not particularly with Christmas approaching (much quicker than my savings to cover it:rotfl: )
Like do i need to buy tins of chocs just 'cos they are on offer at Asda??
Does SIL who we never see really need another hamper? Do I need to buy 6 magazines to tell me how to spend money on wrapping paper & setting a table with 'cheap' accessories that I'll have to go out & buy & then go to the pub 'cos I will be so P***ed off at having spent unnecesarily:confused:

Given this thread was born out of our dear queen Cafgirl's giving up money for lent challenge perhaps we should move on to nothing unnecessary (but still have a good time) for Christmas challenge, but only after Halloween!!

You see - I have failed halloween already... bought 'horror' sweets on Sunday (2 for 1) for the occasional trick or treaters who may call in a couple of weeks time & I've eaten them already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's awesome that it hasn't gone up further. Which it will - though very neccesary.

Just thought I'd see if anyone was still here. I really need the guidance of our great leader CAFCgirl. I have just spent so much money on the internet in the last three days I hope my DH doesn't find out.I need to be reined in and kept back under control. I do feel better knowing that I am not the only one!

Just trying to drag this thread out of the depths of the forum... :)

I'm not doing very well :( Well, it's the end of the month today, and I'm only £17 over budget (which isn't great, but I was £240 over in August, so it's a start!).

However, the Unnecessary spending is a bit out of hand... Instead of the £40 for the month, I've managed to spend £102!! Only managed to not go more over general budget by not spending ANYTHING on our van (hardly used it), but the speedo has broken, so that'll need fixing next month, and there's hardly any diesel in it :)

So I'm here to get back on track :) £47 of that £102 was on chocolate, would you believe! Shocking... So I've joined Slimming World (don't need to lose that much, but it helps with eating habits). Hopefully that'll keep me on track for a lot less! The rest has been the odd takeaway (which SW should help with), beer (again...), and general going out for a cuppa.

Anyway, just to say I'll pop in here over the next few weeks, hopefully stick to my £10

    How's everyone else doing?
