    I think perhaps steps towards putting the house on the market (ie legal action as I suggested above) would indeed be likely to do so. Actually doing so would likely incur costs / contracts with estate agents, solicitors etc which would be best avoided if possible however

    To a large extent I admire / broadly agree with your sentiments. Surely however it does have to work both ways! Would you agree that in this case the daughter & son in law appear not to be playing ball on that?
  • So this close family member is your daughter. How much profit did you make on the sale of the house to her back in 2004?

    I think you should just write it off mate. Maybe get her to pay you back £50 a month or something as a good will gesture and get on with your life. It's too short to have stresses like this - especially with close family members.
