OS Daily for Friday 9th November 2012

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 9th Nov. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Good Morning everyone well first of all thank you all so much for your kind wishes and thoughts for my lovely Shelley.I was at the hospital until late last night as she was late going down to theatre but she is ok and has come through fine. She originally was told it would be a 'dyson' job IYKWIM plus a lapyroposcope (sp) to take her ovaries out through her tummy button. But then changed their minds when she was on the table and opened her up so she feels like she's been hit with a truck at the moment (been there, done that, I do know how she is feeling this morning :) ),But although she worried and nagged (so what's new there ) I was there when she came back to her room,no way would I have slept until I saw she was alright. She had banned her OH and DD from going to the hospital last night but once I rang him and said she was awake and ok he ignored her orders and took himself and her DD to see her.I had a text from her this morning to say she was fine but a bit sore and they had kept her oxygen on overnight. After I have done the school run this morning I'm off up there again to see her.She is in a very nice room and has everything laid on.Even the orderly brought me a couple of cups of tea last night and a 'posh cup cake' whilst I waited in her room .They really look after you in a private hospital. She was supposed to be NHS but because of the bed shortage locally the hospital allocate a local private hospital for a couple of their 'spare beds':):).Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and I'm sure as a lot of you are Mums you can understand why I ignored her 'I'm fine and don't fuss' nonsense last night .I just had to see for myself that she was ok Even the theatre nurses were laughing at her as when they said 'Your Mums here' she insisted that they were wrong and I was at home .She worries more about the rest of us than she does about herself. Now she will have to do as she's told and rest and recouperate.Right I'm off to have some breakfast and then the school run with the boys
    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone

JackieO - pleased your daughter is on the road to recovery - always a relief once op has been done and patient is in recovery x

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Cloudy overcast and generally dreich!, but blustery too here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was spag bol, when I checked my scribblings (aka "to do and whats happening list"!) I'd planned a spag bol, so didn't go out anywhere as didn't need any supplies, just steadily plowed on through the overflowing washing basket, did majority of the ironing, (there will be more today), did the housework, so today I will be heading to the local town to the bank then food shopping, then will crack on with the remaining jobs etc, will endeavour to do some cooking/baking if poss, so tins will be organised for the weekend and next week. Dinner will be curry, have most of the ingredients just need to get the naans and accompaniments, have just been to the freezer and found some chicken breasts, so they are now defrosting as we speak, they have been in there a while so need using up.

Have a good Friday everyone x

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning all - not much to report here. Just working and sleeping; woken up by neck bones crunching and grinding. Thyroid bloodtest today. Will do something simple like pork chops, mash & peas for dinner. DH is off work with a bad back although that's improving. I think we're still recovering from having Mum here for a week (she went home on Monday). It struck me how different our life has become - I was quietly aware of how wasteful she is with things like hot water, toilet paper and washing-up liquid, and how she demands stuff we wouldn't normally buy, like cakes and biscuits and sweets. Not that I begrudge her any of it, but we'll probably bust the November budget because of it. I think she may have missed the note that people of her generation are supposed to have learned frugality during the war ;)

Nothing much planned for the weekend beyond a bit of decluttering if the weather holds. I need to cull the wardrobes of unwanted clothes and shoes. I've mapped out the budget till Spring 2015 on my spreadsheet, assuming no payrises and no huge household emergencies. I'm planning a 2-purse system from 25th November to use the bank account as little as possible. Instead of paying for everything by debit card like I usually do, I'll do the Costco shop with the card, then split the rest of the grocery budget into weekly envelopes, and the same with my personal spending money. The freezers are full so next month shouldn't be too bad even while getting in some treats for Christmas. One extravagance I need to cut back on is Kindle and iTunes stuff - I've spent £32 this month on them, and £85 last month (£122 the previous month when I was at home recovering from my op) - it comes out of my personal spending money but I hadn't realised how it all adds up. At least I'm seeing a big downward trend there. I don't expect to become a perfect frugalist overnight.

Don't know what's happening at Christmas as my sister hasn't got her shift pattern yet. Poor thing's just been fitted with hearing aids in both ears and she's only 43 - probably self-preservation living with Mum, a stroppy teenager and a toddler! Anyway, it'll all work out.

Have a good day everyone :)

    Morning :hello:

Miss tru had her interview yesterday, she starts on monday as a trainee dental nurse :j

Glad your DDs ok, Jackie :)

Did you like the way I combined 'two' and 'tealights' into 'twolights' yesterday? Obviously I did it on purpose  :o

I think I need an op. I desperately need a piece of my brain taken out - the bit that holds information and memories of in-laws. Then I need some sort of block put in that prevents me from going anywhere near their houses and hearing the phone when they ring.

Mr tru is off work so I've written the day off already :D We'll go shopping, with a slight detour to buy candles, then eat lunch. He'll be checking his stupid phone for calls and texts then spend ages replying to everyone while I ignore him. Might catch up on some recorded programs or read a book. I should be able to get on with things but just can't when he's in the house.

Floss, thanks for that, I had no idea about Wilkinson's website. I usually plan what I need in town, wait til I have a decent sized list (to make the bus fare worthwhile) then buy lots at once. So I never have a need to shop online from there.

Uolypool I don't even know what to say. The bitch needs a good slap.

    morning all

JO glad dd is ok x

adelight happy birthday :bdaycake:hope you have a lovely day

need to get some birthday cards got 7 birthdays in November, its a very expensive month :( thankfully most of the presents are already sorted , i just need to finish off DD1s , she wont be home for her birthday for the 1st time so i am send ing her a party box ( hats, balloons, banners, chocolate, popcorn and some vouchers to get pizza ) so she can throw a party at uni -

really want to declutter the cupboards in the dining room , trouble is the majority of it is DHs and he is a hoarder, most of it is work related and he really doesnt need it ( hes retired ) but he finds it hard to throw anything away, but my dining room has started to sprout little piles of 'stuff' because there is nowhere to put it so the time has come to get down and sort it out .

not sure whats for tea yet , will have a hunt through the freezer later

have a good day everyone xx
