I was a member of a local leisure club in a hotel until Feb this year .I had fulfilled my minimum contract and given correct notice .No more payments taken since then until hubby checked his accounts tonight and saw theyve helped themselves to a payment this week totally randomly.Tried to ring them but they are closed now.Hes fuming that all this time along they still have his bank details.surely this is illegal isnt it?thankfully he hasnt incurred charges but its left us short until its returned.any advice with what to do next would be great.

Contact your bank and explain, they will sort it for you.
Let them deal with it.
But I would certainly write to the liesure club to complain and tell
them to destroy your details.
And no, it isnt illegal for them to keep your details.
Ive just taken a contract for my boiler with british gas, they had my details from when I last dealt with them about 15 years ago.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Also do they have a facebook page? Sometimes writing on those gets a response quickly.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
The direct debit indemnity scheme means that if you complain to your bank they will reimburse you as the payment was not authorised and then they will recover the funds on your behalf. Don't forget to permanently cancel the direct debit at your end too.0

No it isn't illegal. It wouldn't have happened if you or hubby had cancelled the direct debit with the bank. A lesson for next time?

Login to your online banking and cancel all old direct debits, speak to the bank about getting a refund under the direct debit guarantee.

Was it a direct debit or a standing order and did you cancel it with your bank?0
