Buying Jewellery online is a complete no-no. Unless you dont care about paying 200-500% of the actual value of the piece that is. Because thats what the markup is, and needs to be. (TV studio, production costs, cameraman, presenter salary etc etc)

I don't recon the cost of running would be higher than a shop. They can broadcast to ten of thousands and shift vast quantities per hour, they'll get some money on p & p and also call costs. A shop will have many times more staff, although most on a low wage there will be several managers and a store manager which would have a high wage. The combination of the lot where the footfall may even remotely compete with the potential viewing of a tv channel would probably make a shop have far higher staffing costs.

A shop will have to deal with the cost of security & theft and would probably be more logistically complicated eg shifting stock from stockrooms to displays etc whilst a tv channel just has to ship straight from a massive warehouse.

I really recon their running costs are probably a lot less.

I'm glad to see how old these posts are, as I think these comments today would probably be unjustified. However, isn't it just typical that when mistakes occur, everyone will complain. What about those like myself, who are very happy with The Jewellery Channel? I have bought numerous things from them and been very pleased with the size and the quality. There was one mishap where their quality control department cancelled an order (in other words, they refused to sell me something that was sub standard), and forgot to tell me until delivery was overdue. They have refunded the money in full and will give me free postage on my next order.
Sorry guys, but I think TJC are brilliant!

I think you've just done TJC the BIGGEST disservice ever by (as pmduk has pointed out) bringing up a thread that had died a natural death over 2 years ago.

Lots of people are going to read though this thread and not immediately realise that most of the comments and complaints are almost FOUR years old.

I hope TJC weren't paying you to 'big up' their business because it's spectacularly misfired.
  • Although the comments might be a couple of years old, my recent experience with TJC is not especially positive.

I was shopping for a present from their web site, and used the site's "Find my address" function, and submitted the order.
Two days later I received a confirmation that my order had shipped so I visited the site to check the status.
I realised that the address was incomplete because the Street name had been missed.

I emailed TJC telling them of the error and advised that it was a problem caused by the function on their web site. (I tested the function three times to be sure.)
I also tried calling, and, after holding for twenty minutes I decided to drop the call.

I called the following week and was told that because the post code and house number were in the address information, there wouldn't be a problem. And anyhow, as they sent the item via the Post Office, there was no tracking information, and they could do nothing until a week after the item had been dispatched.

I waited 10 days and phoned again to advise that my item hadn't arrived. This time I was told that actually nothing could be done for 21 days.

I asked to speak with a manager as I was being given conflicting information; and because no-one had yet replied to my initial email.

I was told that the manager was in a meeting and that I would be contacted by end of day.

Two days later, no response to my email, and no call from a manager.

I sent another email asking that someone get in touch with me, either via email or telephone.

Three more days have now passed and still nothing.

Admittedly, this was my first experience with TJC so I had expected they would have some level of customer service. Disappointingly this seems not to be the case.

Now I'm wiser. This was my first and - once I have a resolution to this problem - probably my last experience with them.

let your card company know there is a problem. If necessary they'll probably be able to arrange a chargeback. (after an appropriate period)

The last season of Southpark dedicated a show to jewelry tv sellers, showing the cycle that went from blingy tat to cash for gold back to the third world for remanufacture into blingy tat. One of their better later episodes.
