The Jewellery Channel, TJC, ch640 sky - cs & quality issues

hope i'm allowed to use a link to another forum where every day, more & more problems come to light with this shopping channel.

supposedly one of the biggest manufacturers in the world & going for 20+ years, they sell a mix of all jewellery, some really high end items & special under £50 hours too. they've been live on sky for just over a year & recently extended their live selling hours to 8am-3am.

just a nudge for any potential buyers to get a bigger picture of the shopping experience others have had, although i'm sure there must be thousands of satisfied customers too! just because you're spending ££££'s, doesn't always mean great quality & service unfortunately.

  • So what you're trying to say is that it's cheap tat and not to buy anything from them?

hmmm...no, it's not ALL cheap tat!

they do have some lovely designs & beautiful gemstones, but problems do keep cropping up, as shown on the linked threads.

there used to be loads of posts about "oooh, look at this, isn't stunning" but more often than not at the moment, it's all "bloomin TJC, stuffed up again!".

like most things, if it's going ok & you've got no need to contact CS - great. if things do go wrong - oh dear...good luck in contacting CS & wait ages for a refund.

just a little bump on this thread - loads more new complaint posts on the other forum i mentioned & they have actually been reported to Trading Standards now too by one member...

their CS Manager has been out off the office for most of this week (ill i think), with her gone, it's like the whole of CS has no idea what's going on & can't, or won't help.

This manager is normally great for sorting most things out, eventually. just goes to show how much they need her & how much she is carrying the whole department.

Ive read the posts on that forum and from what i can see the people who buy from them are their own worst enemies, they buy shoddy goods and complain, then go right back and buy more shoddy goods,so until people STOP buying from them TJC will not change.Plus they only sell one ring size,so if its not your size you then have to get it resized by a company of their choice, who are probably as bent as they are,and to my knowledge its more difficult if not impossible to resize a gem set ring and more so if you are a dodgy company in the first place. So the blame imo lies with the customers for continuing to buy from them. Its that simple.

I'm not really sure where this thread is going? You can't really judge service from reading a forum until you know all the figures. For example I've once seen a comment in this forum commenting on the amount of times Tescos comes up here suggesting that is a measure of it's service. With Tescos market share no wonder you see it come up a lot!

Percentages are important, not frequency. Tescos may well come up a lot of times on here but as a percentage of customers have fewer complaints than other supermarkets but will appear on here more frequently due to it's market share. You cannot judge that companies service untill you know the percentage of people who've complained. It may well be very low.

    Who knows?

One thing that struck me when reading the threads. Why is everybody going back for more? Surely if it's that rubbish one wouldn't buy off them? I know I wouldn't. It's simple, if you get messed about by a company you take your custom elsewhere, not go back for more then complain about it.

i understand where the comments regarding people still buying from them come from BUT, it's really only been since Xmas time that things have gone really wrong. the majority of posters on there have now stopped buying.

before then, there was the odd problem or two, but on the whole buyers were happy with goods - CS has always been a bit hit & miss unfortunately.

like i've already said, they do have some lovely items & this is where the weak willed customer comes in! - you've not bought anything for ages because something went wrong last time, an item catches your eye when you're flicking thru the channels, you think "really like that, will give them one LAST try" - maybe you hit lucky this time, maybe not...

uktim - you're right about the %'s, they must be selling 1000's of items & only they know their return/query rate. when you speak to CS, they nearly always seem overwhelmed with work & quite often a response of "oh no, something else wrong - i'm so sorry etc etc".

anyway, my original post was a genuine 'heads up' for anyone thinking of buying, i always like to have a bit of background info when i'm spending £££'s, so this is for anyone else the same. :)
  • I've bought quite a lot from tjc with no problems up till now. Having a bit of a nightmare. They sent the wrong item to me. The graphics they had up were for the item they sent but that's not what they were showing. They've admitted their mistake and said that they'll send out the item they were showing to me but I'm asking for more as they mis-sold me a product. The minute I asked for a goodwill gesture from them they stopped answering my e-mails. Let's just see where this goes......

I've seen some of these channels. A ring, say, starts at £500 and withing mins they have dropped it to £30.00.

The buyer must ask themselves...was the ring really £500 to start with...if so, how would they manage to knock £470.00 off that and still say it's quality?

Like most deals, if it looks to good to be ture, it proberbly is.
