The Jewellery Channel, TJC, ch640 sky - cs & quality issues

DW was watching one of those jewellery channels the other night ... is anybody actually taken in by the silly 'start' prices? From what I could see divide by 10 and then take about 50-75% of the result is a more realistic price.

Do you go there or buy online?
I'm considering a Jewellery Channel purchase.
Would this be through Thai Gem? They are well known on Ebay but i really don't know if they are good to buy from or not as i don't know the shop even though it is based in Bangkok and I've never dealt with them.
I would never by jewellery from Thailand via a web site. The reason being that allot of the gems are actually very good fakes that you wouldn't know until valued over here. One really good jeweller is called Venus Jewellery and is practically next door to the British Embassy in Bangkok. As for how do I buy mine, I travel to Bangkok as I used to live there so I know the set up. You don't have the same problem buying gold chains, most of that is is 22 K. Buy from a shop not a stall and always ask for recommendations0 -

Whilst I would agree that you can purchase some toot in TJC ( & I have done so myself ), if you go for the higher priced Illiana range - you really do get an amazing bargain! Last yr my husband purchased a replacement engagement ring for me at a cost of £1149. It was Illiana 18ct white gold with a certified 0.50ct central diamond and 0.27ct in 2 smaller diamonds on each side. I had this valued by Ernest Jones in March this yr & it was valued @ £2525!! My Mum purchased a Columbian Emerald/Diamond ring a few months ago - also Illiana, and she paid around £500 & it was valued @ £2000!!!
As others have said - if you buy a ring for £39, what do you expect! I have returned several items as when they arrive they look thin & cheap. You need to check out how thick the gold band looks on screen. I have purchased another Illiana Tanzanite/Diamond ring recently for £349 & I am getting this valued next month - will keep you posted!
The guy who did both my mum's & my valuation was a jeweller who worked with the crown jewels & certainly seemed to know his stuff - he was very impressed with my ring & said it was a lovely piece!0 -
My wife needed a pair of diamond earrings for a gift and we have been saving up money for months to buy a pair.
Whilst watching the Jewellery Channel for the first time we purchased two pairs of earrings from the Jewellery Channel, both times asking if the money back guarentee applied before handing over payment details. Both times we were told yes (once even after the assistant had checked with a supervisor). But after we returned both pairs because they were not suitable we had the packages returned with a screwed up note that said the guarentee did not apply for hygiene reasons.
My wife then contacted them twice by telephone, the first time they explained that they would review the recordings of the conversations on their system, and the second to hear that 'the recordings of our specific conversations had not been taken' and that the terms and conditions are avaialble on the internet and we should have checked this before buying!!!!
I am disgusted at the customer service attitude we have received from this company and are now stuck with over £1,000 of jewellery that we dont want and a VERY sour taste in our mouthes.
I would be able to acccept this if we had not checked or the guy on the auction had explained that the money back guarentee did not apply to the items but we checked both times and are still unable to return the items.
I will not be buying anything else from this company EVER again and don't know what to do!0 -
Does anybody know about the fresh talent competition from tjc? They are supposed to announce the winner on Saturday, according to the rules, but people were supposed to have been able to vote for the finalists for a week before the winner is announced. I just wondered if anyone had been informed of being a finalist, Thanks0

I'm glad to see how old these posts are, as I think these comments today would probably be unjustified. However, isn't it just typical that when mistakes occur, everyone will complain. What about those like myself, who are very happy with The Jewellery Channel? I have bought numerous things from them and been very pleased with the size and the quality. There was one mishap where their quality control department cancelled an order (in other words, they refused to sell me something that was sub standard), and forgot to tell me until delivery was overdue. They have refunded the money in full and will give me free postage on my next order.
Sorry guys, but I think TJC are brilliant!0 -
Why resuscitate a thread that has been dead for two years, you've brought it to the top of the pile again highlighting everybody's problems? I'm sure that's not why they employed you.0

Buying Jewellery online is a complete no-no. Unless you dont care about paying 200-500% of the actual value of the piece that is. Because thats what the markup is, and needs to be. (TV studio, production costs, cameraman, presenter salary etc etc)0
