barcelona airports

I have just booked flights to barcelona with Monarch. Their web site just says Barcelona airport. I know there are two. Does anyone know which one it will be and how far it is from Salou? Is it an easy drive as we inted to hire a car and don't know the area?

    is there two?

we flew in to barcelona and drove to a resort further south than salou. its an easy drive. you get on the motorway near the airport and get off at salou. would be about an hour and half if my memory serves me right. there are a few tolls to pay.

I printed out the instructions from the route finder on the AA website. they give very detailed instructions..couldnt go wrong.

Yes, there are two airports. Reus and Barcelona. Monarch's website should state which airport they fly to. Look out for the airport code as an indication.
Reus is very close to Salou (Just got back from Reus myself). It is about 20 minutes to the resort. Barcelona airport is approx 1 hour away.

Most people book a cheap Ryanair flight to either Reus or Girona and then travel to Barcelona.
Ryanair fly every day of the year to Reus which is next door to Salou.

Surely if you are flying direct to Barcelona that is the place you should be visiting and not Salou?

    Barcelona Airport is El Pratt.
    Thats the real one.
Girona and Reus aren't really "Barcelona". ryanair fly there as do a lot of charters for Costa Brava and Dorada
If Monarch say its Barcelona they fly to, then it will be the real one-El Pratt

Don`t know if you intend to go to Barcelona or Salou
either way there is a coach that waits outside the terminal to take you there.

Maybe the OP simply wants to go to Salou, and the Barcelona flights are far cheaper?

Not everyone decides where to go on holiday just because there is a cheap flight to an airport within a few miles. ;)

Coincidentally, we are flying to Barcelona in a month's time precisely to stay in Salou; because we are flying to Barcelona, we are going to stop off one night at either end of the holiday in Barcelona rather than going to Barcelona on a day-trip as many who stay in Salou do.

We couldn't fly to Reus affordably from where we want to fly from, at decent flight times, and we are very happy to have the extra nights in Barcelona. :)

Thanks to all. We are staying near Salou so son can visit theme park. Will spend some time in Barcelona. Are there 3 airports? Reus, Girona and "the real one"? Feel more confused now. The Monarch website simply says Barcelona airport.
