Pregnant and overweight

  • It all depends how over weight you are - if you are 30 BMI or over you will usually have more appointments to monitor weight and be advised to eat more fruit and vegetables and keep active but other than that dont think it makes alot of difference. Congratulations!!

I fell for my DD in 1992/3 weighing 19stone 1 pound, we'd been trying a year and the following cycle was going to start on Clomid but fell naturally. I had a very healthy pregnancy with no extra appointments needed except an extra scan as baby was huge. They told me to expect 10lb+ as I was so big pre-pregnancy/during pregnancy

I gave birth at 42 weeks to a normal 8lb 7oz baby after an emergency caesarian because my pelvis was too narrow (at my size?? ) to deliver her naturally.

Sadly my weight did prevent further pregnancies, I just couldn't shift it, we tried all sorts for 7 years and then gave up when I was told IVF was our only option.

Enjoy your pregnancy, eat healthy and you'll be just fine! :D

My BMI is over 30 and i dont have any extra appointments, my midwife doesnt even weigh me anymore as she can see baby is growing well, bump is measuring what it should and active. She believes that is a more accurate look on pregnancy than constantly weighing mums to be.

I love my midwife! lol :j

I was big when I had my 4th child 3 years ago (still am tbh but doing something about it now) I had the usual pregnancy complications & the only thing I found different from my other pregnancies (i was overweight for 3 of them) was that once I had had my daughter I was put on clexane (sp?) injections to lower the risk of blood clots. Not sure if that was just because of the weight or because it was also my 4th baby, 3 of whom were born within 3 years.
My midwife was fantastic & he actively encouraged me to go for a home birth, coz he knew it would be the last baby he would be my midwife for, but hubby refused saying he would feel happier if baby was born in hospital. So don't think that your weight will be a problem. I was more than 4 stone overweight aswell.

I was 16 stone when i had my first, i was 11 stone the day i left hospital after his birth. I ate healthily and walked miles during pregnancy.

8 years later was 15 stone with number 2, only lost 3 stone that time.

Surprise pregnancy with number 3 weighed in at 15 stone and didnt really lose any, I had pre eclampsia with number 2, he arrived 6 weeks prem. I was on bed rest through the whole of the pregnancy. I breast fed all three and put weight back on each time!! Slimming world is a great diet that I am currently following, first time I have ever dieted, its wonderful.

when i was pregnant i only put on 4lbs. had a 7lb baby and the rest of the stuff that goes with it.

Still loosing weight breastfeeding but i can say that the only complication i had was they wanted to do a gluclose test to make sure that i was ok and didnt have diabites. that was fine.

    Congratulations and good luck!
