Try www.toptable.co.uk to book a table for a meal before you go. I have had some cracking deals in central restaurants by using this site.
Agree with the comments not to try and pack in too much so you enjoy the day more - probably sightseeing OR shopping (avoid Oxford Street, it really is overrated and there is nothing there that you cant find on any other high street other than Selfridges maybe).
Hopefully you can always go back

We haven't been to London before and are mainly going to look around the shops, go on the eye, and see a few of the main sights (just the ones which are close to the area of the eye/shops)
This is just my personal opinion, but unless you have a burning desire to visit some particular specialist shops, or one off places like Hamleys or Harrods (which is a bit out of the centre) then I'd concentrate on the sights that are unique to London rather that the shops - Oxford Street / Regent Street stores are mainly just large versions of exactly the same chain stores you'll see on any other city high street or major shopping centre, and certainly not worth travelling from Crewe for.0 -
Right outside the door at Euston there is a Nandos . We love this for a family money saving deal. We order a deal which is 4 drinks and 4 sides and 2 chickens between 5 works well and every morsel gets eaten -about £40 including drinks.0

Toptable is a great call. If you look in central london (The city) you will find some really top restaurants that do very cheap deals on the weekend as it's very quiet. They tend to have short set menus for a fixed price if you feel like it. Such as 1 Cornhill. Be aware that some places don't get the booking from toptable well - but just tell them you want the toptable deal and they will give it to you normally. even if, maybe, you didn't *actually* book with toptable, but just said you did...p00hsticks wrote: »This is just my personal opinion, but unless you have a burning desire to visit some particular specialist shops, or one off places like Hamleys or Harrods (which is a bit out of the centre) then I'd concentrate on the sights that are unique to London rather that the shops - Oxford Street / Regent Street stores are mainly just large versions of exactly the same chain stores you'll see on any other city high street or major shopping centre, and certainly not worth travelling from Crewe for.
I completely agree. Very crowded, and mostly just high street names.0 -
Thanks again everyone, I think that one of the group wants to go Harrods so we will have to do that. We haven't booked a ticket on the eye, should we book do you think? We were planning on just turning up, will it be busy on a Sunday afternoon?
The toptable tip is great thanks I will look into booking (not booking!) on there, alternatively the Nando's near Euston is a great alternative as we do have kids with us.
Thanks for all the tips they are a great help

And your top pick is to go on the 'eye'??We haven't been to London before
Forget the 'eye' . Forget the standard shops . Instead concentrate on the unique features of London . Yes the eye gives a nice view but is not worth the limited time you have.
Yes to Harrods . it may be 'just' a shop , but it is an experience.0 -
Please remember this Sunday is Remembrance Day , so areas around Whitehall will be packed.0

Whenever I have relatives / friends staying I always take them into London and do this:

It is expensive but they sometimes do 2 for 1 deals with train tickets. The guides are always really good fun and the tour goes on land and then into the Thames (via the MI6 slipway) to get really close to the Houses of Parliament and a great shot of the MI6 building from the James Bond scene.
Can't recommend this highly enough.:hello:0
