You may be tied in for a year and unable to easily cancel until that period is up.

Have you removed your sky card from the box yet so you can see what channels you get? It really not confusing at all.

no i asked at the time if that would lock me into another contract and they said no, i have spoken to sky a few times since then about cancelling and its never come up that i cant.
no not yet as i am at work unfortunately! i look forward to experimenting tonight!

Freesat and Fresat From Sky are completely separate and different platforms.
If you don't require PVR facilities, then !!!!!! will do fine for you at no cost whatsoever.
If you do, then you either have to pay Sky £10 per month forever to continue using Sky+ (the decryption will cease to work once you cancel your sub), or (more sensibly) buy a Freesat PVR, which will work with the existinge dish, cabling and LNB without realignment-it's just a straight box swap.

I moved to FREESAT FROM SKY and had to pay £20 for a new viewing card to get Channel 4 and the Five channels. This was a year or two ago. Is this still the case.??

No, no longer, both now FTA, have been for a while, except Ch5 HD which currently requires a card.
  • hi everyone
when i got home last night i experimented with the card out of the sky box to see what happened. and hey presto we get a page and a half of channels so i immediately rang sky to cancel all 3 boxes and just keep the recording feature at £10 a month till we can afford to buy a recording device. thanks for your help and saving me money.

That'll still be costing you £120 a year, so start saving fast...
You can get a PVR for less than £100, so 3m savings on the full Sky sub.

where can i get one for £100? i can only see freesat recording devices for £150-£200? the freeview ones seem to be around the £100 mark but we cant get freeview where we are.

Yes, sorry, Freesat will be nearer £150. Keep an eye on the Humax Direct manager's specials.
