I repeatedly cleaned out Old Boy's abscess on his head after it burst (whilst having antibiotics from the vet everyday for a week) - it involved gently opening it up again (lifting the bits of dead fur and scab off) whilst irrigating with copious quantities of saline and massaging the various bits to bring the muck up to the hole.
His was on his forehead, but the crud was coming up from his jawline. That's how far it spread. He put up with it with very little complaint, even though each time I spent about ten minutes. I would imagine that on the base of the tail, it will be coming up from the top of the legs.
The most important thing, I think, was giving the muck a way out - hence reopening the hole everyday. And it was trying to seal itself over before the muck had finished.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Awww.....lovely pic. Mines a tortie.....the vet said they are mental ( which is why I love them though)
Ahhhhhhh
that explains a lot!
They are so adorable but have the most amazing tempers when they get going
I remember when I took her to my vet for her 1st jabs ....... vet fell about laughing and said ...... "and you thought Smudge was a handful ...... just wait" (he had to go regularly due to kidney issues and wasn't the easiest to handle).
Guess what ..... she's right - but wouldn't swap her for the world!:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

God I'm freaking out now a bit with the posts about healing etc as it is very big and if filled up again could be real trouble I think.
So.....will go in for the attack with the honey. This will have to be done in nano-seconds as she will run , do I just plant some on the opening to the holes or try to push a bit into the cavity ?Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

i put my carrier on the sofa so the open ing is in line with the edge of the sofa and that way my cat has no option but to go in, also they don't put up too much of a fuss.
have you though about getting a wicker carrier like this http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_carriers_travel/wicker_cat_carrier/13605?gclid=COz7ua_wvLMCFSbMtAodpCcA5g
your cat might like it as it's more like a den.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

I only cleaned it because the vet said it was OK. If they haven't told you to do it, then I would speak to them first and get their veterinary advice.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Thanks.........fairly redundant exercise anyhow......gave her one of those vile lick-e-lix (so head end busy) went to put some honey on hole............and wham !...fast as you like manic biatch materialised.
She's spent last half hour eating honey off leg though... :rotfl:
I will stick with the Grab, drop, zip scenario on friday for now.......on the assumption that works.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Have you ever tried putting a clip on her neck scruff to see if it "deactivates" her and calms her down? Might help with getting her in the carrier, keeping her calm at the vet etc. Obviously training her over time to not mind the carrier is more ideal, but in the meanwhile...
There are lots of videos of how to do it/demonstrating it, but I can't play them to get the links right now, just look on Youtube.

Thanks , before I read this I figured it would be basically what a mother would do to a kitten. Not sure I would feel comfortable placing one correctly though......and it's pretty much what I did with my hand in vets once out of carrier and she didn't really struggle too much considering the pain she may/must be in and what was done.......I think it's more of a being locked in/carrier thing,so hopefully new one big enough for a colony of cats will help.
It's partly my own fault really , she's never been to a vet past 2yrs as never ill , never put in a cattery and was a house cat untill last 5yrs-ish (12 now). She just freaks at anything new...hisses at new shoes or boots (but loves the boxes).
After this fiasco I have decided to take her twice a year , she's getting older and things will start to go wrong and I need to have her slightly better about it for any further invasive stuff..........so it's a twice yearly check-up from now on reguardless...:oYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... This is going to be hard to put into words, and it helps if you have big hands.
Put the carrier up against a wall so that it cant be pushe backwards.
With the cat facing away from you, and towards the carrier door, slide one hand, with your fingers facing forward, palm upward, firstly under the tummy, and then between and around the cats front legs. This means that as you put the cats head into the basket she cant spread her front legs wide to grip either side of the door because you can hold her front legs together and underneath her. You may then need another person to keep her back legs together. You are almost making her into an arrow shape as you put her in. You will need to put your hand holding her front legs right into the basket with her.
The way I do it, it works every time, so if it doesnt work its because I've described it badly.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.0
