HELP...How do I get my cat in the basket for the vets on my own , it took 3 of us thi

I haven't tried feliway as don't usually need it , and most friends say it's useless too to be honest. I used to get her nails trimmed but she doesn't seem to need it anymore for some reason ( but flat is half filled with cat scratch/play things and she used those)....but no,I don't trim them......she doesn't seem to need it I do check them.
I did ask about sedative and vet said she may not need to come back, but as abscess is so large I want her seen again to be sure she's ok, so I didn't end up with a sedative to take home.
The carrier......is usual plastic sturdy type.......But , I am thinking if I got a huge one when she does the star shapes a bigger one would mean she can't push legs off the hole sides,I will go have a look at them tomorrow as probably the price of a home visit anyhow.
I thought all vets did home visits to be honest.......I'm sure they used to , or maybe that was just to put an animal to rest....I'll have to check.
She has had to go to the vets so rarely that it isn't usually a problem, I will have to work this out though as she is getting older and things will start to go wrong.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Feliway doesn't work for every cat so it's a gamble, but rescuers really rave about it for many cats. Maybe you could get some leftovers from a friend rather than buying it? :money:
If you just take the tips off the claws a couple of days before a planned vet visit they can't hook onto stuff so easily! :cool:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Ohhhh you have my sympathies as she sounds like wee cat ... who is like no other I've ever had either

If you do consider a new carrier - can't recommend this highly enough http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002RLE13M/?!!!!!hydra0b-21&hvadid=11565930605&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10931870581116546992&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&ref=asc_df_B002RLE13M
Still hard to get her in - I go with the on end version like JoJo describes BUT once at the vets, it makes a huge difference as the top opening can be used, wee cat can stay in the carrier and be treated and is a lot happier than having to be taken out the carrier ..... which used to result in injury to anyone within claw / teeth reach.
Also as the front is solid plastic, she wouldn't be able to get her feet through which would solve that problem too.

Thanks rising , that looks good. The one I have can be a top-loader too, however I'm thinking I need a bigger one to get the rotating legs in........maybe one the size of a small aircraft hanger....:o
She has had a small poo now, eaten and drank so obviously feeling miles better etc , but I do want her seen again to check it's all going ok as hole/abscess is so massive....and she may need more injections (can't get tablets in her on my own either).
I'm painting a really bad picture of her here...she's lovely , just a bit of a nutter at any type of intervention.....:rotfl:Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

LOL - out of curiosity ..... what colour is she?
You'd not believe the cute, butter wouldn't melt & I'm absolutely adorable wee cat below can turn into such an absolutely horrid, nasty & viscious wee mite at times
All down to "intervention" and being scared ......

I know a few people who absolutely swear by manuka honey for wounds. Has the abcess popped, you mention a hole? I would get some manuka honey from a healthshop (the higher the "factor" it is, the more effective - I'm sure factor isn't the word but it's escaping me just now!) and pop some on/in the abcess. You might want to cover it up to prevent her licking it all off (pair of kiddies knickers might do the trick) or use a plastic bucket collar for just half an hour or so to allow it to do its thing. I recently gave it a whirl on my dog who's prone to sore elbows (chooses to lay on the laminate instead of his bed or the multiple rugs!) and it was fantastic, healed his dry, scaly elbows in next to no time.

Awww.....lovely pic. Mines a tortie.....the vet said they are mental ( which is why I love them though)
I have high factor manuka honey in for myself , to be honest hole is huge,..in fact two holes....looks terrible poor thing, but she seeems happier this morning. I think I would be a bit scared to use the honey at the moment due to the size of it...but would put some on in a few days when hopefully bit better and healed a little bit more, thanks,I hadn't thought of that.
I'm going to go to the shops and look at 'hangers' for her.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Gizmo hates travel, he hates cat baskets to travel in.
my solution is a canvas travel crate that i had for perry the pup when he was a pup.
http://valentinavalentti.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=90
ok so this one looks a bit fancy and this isn't the one i have but it is like this.
got mine at pets at home i think, way to small for perry now, but seeing as it folds down and has its own bag.
ok gizmo still hates travel, and still hates travel crates, but this keeps his arms and legs in, he still does the star fish when you try to get him in, but once zipped up that's it.0 -
Ha !...........how funny mupette.....that is just what I've bought ! It is a dog one 27" so when I tip it on it's end I will have more time to close it before she jumps and flngs herself about. I was a bit worried about 'ripping through the mesh' , but went to 3 other pet shops and they do them for cats too. I'm hhopefull this will be easier and that she will like it better.......she's in it now !! ....but tends to get psychic closer to vet appointment and hide as they all do.
She can't put claws out on car seat with it ,and it has curtains so she won't be spooked with seeing people at the vets.........here's hoping.
Sorry, last post didn't include.....Yes the abscess has popped,I asked vet if we could clean it out,but she said this would mean knocking her out and wasn't needed. We did flush it though with what just looked like a syringe of iodine liquid.......so I think it is mainly empty now and she just has the horrid huge hole....it's so big it is making me feel a bit sick.....looks awfull poor thing.
SO.........rock on friday with my new miracle carrier .....:o:)Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Personally I would want to be treating keeping on top of the abcess to ensure it doesn't return. I presume she's had an antibiotic injection but with abcesses it is vital that they heal from the inside out or you risk trapping bacteria inside and another abcess forming. I'd be using something like manuka honey to keep the wound moist so a scab doesn't form over the top. I would think the honey would do a fab job even now, I know someone who uses it for everything since her dog suffered from MRSA in a wound - so she's understandably reluctant to use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.
I dealt with quite a few abcesses on a smaller scale with small furry pets and although I didn't know about manuka honey back then, I did ensure the abcesses didn't scab over. One time they did, I was on holiday and my petsitter didn't pull through with the close care they'd promised (if I'd have known I would have asked my vets to keep her in for the week) so the multiple abcesses scabbed over and she had to go under anaesthetic to have them all cleaned out thoroughly where the pus had returned and solidified under the scabs, not very nice!0
