I got a 600g roast beef joint in M&S and I want to attempt to cook it in the slow cooker today, can anyone tell me how to cook it but I need step by step instructions?
I got my Mum to cook it the last time in her oven and it came out like rubber so I would like to try it myself in my slow cooker this time!0 -

Not an expert but I'd add it to the SC and add any liquid/herbs you want and leave it for about 3-4 hours (assuming the SC is cold when you start). If its not tender enough - probably will be - then leave it another hour. I've only cooked a beef joint once but it was delicious and I din't follow any recipe, you get an idea after a while how long different meats etc take.

It was ready after 5 hours and I didn't even need a knife when I was eating it, it was delicious! :j I put the slow cooker on the low setting and I didn't add any water.
My Mum would like me to cook her some roast beef! I have another one in the freezer but think I would need to buy a second joint as there just wouldn't be enough for hubby, Mum, Dad & I.0 -
Sounds like a result0

I bought my very first slow cooker recently - 3l one from Asda for £9! I'm trying it out for the first time today. Got a couple of packs of Asda diced casserole beef (£1.98 a pack) and a bag of their ready chopped casserole veg (£1) and covered over with beef stock (I like loads of gravy!) it's been on low for an hour so far. Hoping to have a tasty beef casserole for tea at about 6pm!!
ETA: My casserole is looking and smelling amazing! Just took all the meat and veg out so i could thicken the stock. I used flour and gravy granules, and then put all the meat and veg back in and have put it on high for the last 30-40 min. Gonna have mash with it I think and hopefully will have enough for work lunches for the next 2 days!the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
I'm pleased as punch because my mum has offered to buy us a SC to help us save our pennies! :j
I'm going for the £9.00 Asda one - so glad that glitterkitty's experience is a good one.
Will be chomping at the bit til it arrives lol.Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
Oh I made a great stew overnight in my sc. :A
Yesterday I bought a pack of frozen, diced winter vegetables from Waitrose (I know, I know, not very mse, but now and then...) and a pack of organic beef mince.
At home I just put a dollop of xtra virgin olive oil, two cloves of garlic, rosemary, bay leaf, a bit of cayenne pepper, chopped largish onion, tomato paste, the vegs and mince. To make the meat go further I added some end of packet lentils and yellow spit peas, and the end of a bag of mixed veggies (peas, green beans and carrots). Two glasses of water and one of red wine, a bit of LoSalt. Mixed all thoroughly then let it cook for 8 hours. My sc keeps the contents warm when it's finished cooking, so by lunchtime I had a very hearty stew.
All that made 6 portions so I put the remaining 5 in fol trays and let them cool at room temperature, then an hour or so in the fridge to cool further and now in the freezer to use within the next 2 weeks before I need to defrostBe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

No need just toss the meat in flour beforehand and it will thicken as it cooks.0
