not loving my slow cooker. had it about 5 years, one or two things have been ok but generally not impressed and the whole house smells of whatever is cooking, hotpot, curry etc. Daughter went to friends house for dinner cooked in slow cooker which she said tasted lovely and no stinky house smell!I love the idea of slow cooking but wonder if I have a 'dud' cooker, it's a morphy richards, the biggest size, main problem is cooking smells in house (I am a good cook otherwise)0

This is the best bit about the slowcooker for me, coming in the house after work and smelling a lovely cooked meal waiting0 -

Totally agree, I love to come in to be met by the lovely aroma of a tasty cooked meal all ready for eating! I often leave mine on overnight too to do a big pot of soup and I love it when the smell finds its way upstairs. (Maybe if it was curry or chilli though it wouldn't be so tempting first thing in the morning!!)

My favourite:
1 Jar co-op Chilli con carne
1 Red onion, chopped
4 clove garlic (or 2-3 tea spoons of lazy garlic)
500g Lean mince meat cooked in a pan ( I drain off the juice)
1 Tin chopped tomatoes
1 Tin baked beans ~ I use cheap co-op ones.
60g Puy lentils that have been rinsed
125g dried red kidney beans that have been soaked for 12 hours and then rinsed and then fast boiled for 15 mins. Or 1 Tin Red Kidney beans rinsed.
Black pepper ~4 twists of my pepper mill.
3/4 teaspoon lazy red chili
Put everthing in the pot.
With boiling water rinse out baked bean tin (3/4 full), tomato tin (3/4) and jar (1/2). Mix together.
Put on low on at 08:00 and ready any time from 17:00. I tend to stir it when in from school run.
Lovely with rice and also over jacket potato
Last time added more Puy Lentils and reduced the meat. Kids loved it even more.0 -

Not sure you can cook a cake in the slow cooker.
If you cover the cake with foil in the oven that should stop it from burning. Fruitcakes should be cooked slowly.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I found this slow cooker Steamed Christmas Cake - CLICK HERE
It tells you how to cook the cake in the slow cooker. I'd use your recipe with their cooking instructions.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
