I've just bought my first slow cooker and have been looking at the links to recipes in these forums. I've seen a chicken and cous cous one that sounds really nice but it's just a normal one pot recipe. If I'm using a slow cooker do I put the cous cous in at the beginning or 20 minutes from the end?

I know I could just try it and see what happens but thought I'd ask the experts first rather than end up with an inedible meal!

    Thanks!!
I would put the couscous in at the end but I don't know if 20 minutes would be enough! I would go for 30?

Yes with both beef and turkey mince though the latter seems to be the most popular in our household. Don't stir too often or they may break up.

Thanks Bonty - I'll let you know how I get on!
  • I made lentil soup this week, is lovely!!!

half pack of Tesco value cooking bacon
    leek
    4 carrots
    swede
    2 onions
    2 parsnips
    4 handfuls red lentils
    mixed herbs
    chicken stock cube

Chop bacon, put in water and boil on hob for about 10 mins.
Spoon off the white fatty stuff then transfer meat and water to SC
add all chopped veg, lentils, 2 tbsp mixed herbs and 2 cheapy chick stock cubes, put SC on low for about 10 hours.... lush! we're having the rest for lunch when DH gets home now, can't wait

Can I just say - am loving my SC, had it for Xmas, and we're using it all the time :-)

  • Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes....

The OH treated us to a slow cooker today (i have 2 jobs now so don't get much time to prepare a proper meal some days) and it came with a few recipes in a booklet, but just wondered if anyone had any other recipes on what to cook in it?

    Thanks in advance :D
  • Hey SG, try the Slow Cooker recipes thread here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=4273&highlight=slow+cooker

Lots of stuff to try on there - my current fave thing is to make stock from Sunday joints!!
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

  • hi all
have searched the recipe collection and slow cooker collection but cant find it? think that someone mentioned doing a bread and butter pud in the SC - what I wanted to know is: is this possible? how long would I cook it for? and could I use Nigella Lawsons Caramel Croissant pudding recipe and just cook it in the SC instead of the oven?
