Pretty much everything works in a slow cooker!
  • I think breast of lamb is a bit too fatty, the best bit is the crispy fat when it has been roasted in a normal oven. Maybe if you were going to remove the fat anyway, the comparatively small amount of meat that's left would be tender though.

By far our biggest success so far is turkey drumsticks, very cheap and otherwise only good for the dog! We take the meat off after slow-cooking and have had it in a sloppy spicy bean 'cowboy' mix (sorry, will ask my daughter what it's really called), but really love it with coconut milk in a curry. I love beef brisket but the family aren't wild about casseroles so it's only every few weeks.

I got two recipe books for Christmas and can't wait to experiment!

We've just bought a slow cooker, and I'm still busy trawling through all the posts of great recipes. I just want to clear one thing up. I've heard/read, you only need enough liquid to just cover your meat/veg. So, if , as some of your ideas suggest, I use some red wine, do I put in half wine, half water/stock? Thanks for all the great ideas btw.

You need the minimum amount of liquid with almost all SC recipes - I reduce the liquid part of stock when adding wine.

    Hi all!

I got an enormous SC for Christmas, and found this thread. Somewhere towards the beginning there's a recipe for rice pudding, and thought i'd give it a go (it's the only thing i have ingredients for at the mo!). The quantities mentioned barely covered the bottom though, so I doubled them up - is this OK?

I keep peering in, and I'm dying to give it a stir!! Not very good at this leave it alone cookery yet!
Oh for Goodness' Sake!! Here we go again :(
