Perhaps we need to look at this from another angle? Just perhaps anyone with small kids or who fancies a quiet holiday would have the common sense to avoid Cancun at spring break time like the plague? I know I would!

PS: unless of course they've trusted a TA to find a nice relaxing break and they've booked them into the middle of mayhem.....

OK I've looked at hotel and probably agree that it may not be your best choice. However my points about location stand - you are near the downtown area which is not too bad and at spring break the whole of Cancun is pretty wild. To be fair I'd actually avoid Cancun with children at spring break.

Not sure what the credit card company can do

before someone else comes in....if you had noticed that the same holiday was £260 more than you paid, would you expect to pay the extra?

How long till you go? if you look at the Ts&Cs you should be able to work out whether it would be cheaper to cancel and rebook
  • I don't think you'll have much luck with SunSave OP. Lots of complaints on the web about them, and in the end you should have checked the hotel before booking. TBH you'll probably have a nicer room and facilities at a family hotel than at a '18-30s' style one if the ones in Europe are anything to go by.

Your only hope may be if SunSave said it was in the hotel zone, as that hotel is not.

Asked for a thorough breakdown of costs including evidence of the original cost of room booking (cost on website) and they won't supply either to me.

If it's a package holiday, there won't be a separate cost of the room, it'll just be one price for the whole thing.

As for the increase in cost, that's the sort of thing that can happen with any product you buy.

if its spring break then most hotels will be busy with younger folk. Even the ones listed as family orientated as well.

As someone mentioned, cancun is a massive massive strip and unless you are bang in the centre which can be quite expensive you are always going to have to travel to get to places. The two times I have been i have stayed at the top part of the strip which is not walkable to any of the main clubs.

The busses run up and down the strip 24*7 and are really cheap, if there is a group haggle for a taxi and you'll get around pretty cheaply as well.

With the all night drinking/all inclusive clubs you may well appreciate a hotel a bit further away from the action to get away when you want to. Trust me in mexico you will have fun.

Im off for my 4th time this year, not to cancun these days but its still awesome and a great party.

    Enjoy!!

EDIT - just taken a look at where the hotel is and that is off the main strip, that is north of downtown cancun. You really need to be on the Boulevard Kukulkan which is the main 14km strip that goes through cancun. With the numbers of you, you should be fine with taxis but yeah you may want to push them to move you to a different hotel.

Research in advance is always the way forward!
