  • We don't host Christmas, so our list is a bit smaller than most...

Christmas cake - This is a "not making" this year as it took ages, everyone was thankful but didn't eat any
Christmas cards - forgot to give half of them out last year and no one noticed!

And as almost everyone else has said, tins of things. Buy with the intention of taking them to in-laws, but they buy SO many tins themselves that the tins end up coming back home with us.

Nuts still in their shells - can never find the nut cracker and end up using the nuts as toys for the cats to chase!!!

Normally find the nut cracker in a drawer around April and have forgotten where it is by December!!!

They're frequently completely stale inside anyway, with walnuts being the worst :( So, if I want nuts I'll take a look in the cooking isle for ones already out their shells so that I can see what I'm buying.
  • I shall not be buying huge tins of sweets, "festive biccies" mince pies (will make them)

    However, I shall have Lurpak

Not buying alcohol. Still have baileys from last year, and although I like the odd wine, I think my mum is bringing some.

I do have a xmas goody box, also mostly aldi stuff unless I have seen good offers elsewhere...

I keep seeing all the goodies in Aldi, and wondering whether I can trust myself with them between now and Christmas ...:o

We're going to DDs for Christmas-its the first time they've had space for us all and she's insisting on doing everything.

She won't let me give her any money towards the cost. We'll take lots of wine and she has asked me to make the cake.

I'll buy a ham for us at home and probably some stilton too-its often on offer before Christmas and I can freeze any leftovers to use in rissotto.

I wasn't going to make a Christmas pudding but DH wants one so I'll get that made soon.

We never buy big tins of sweets, but we do give a couple as gifts sometimes.

My very talented friend makes us a Christmas cake (which I used to make, but dislike, so her gift saves me a chore), we have loads of Christmas pudding from last year, we buy for the festive meal and meals aroud the time, but I never buy things like extra bread and milk....we have a relatively normal amount of breakfast (if anything slightly under) and while more time is spent at home we drink less tea than normal, but more wine.

Most things for the meal we make ourselves (we have rum rather than brandy butter). We don't buy extra spirits, though we do drink more wine as its lots of non working nights, it's still not bottles and bottles.

There is so little of the Christmas stuff that we want or need this year...

Cards, wrapping paper etc - already have tonnes
Christmas cake & pudding - still have last years
boxes of biscuits - get given them - too expensive to bother buying ourselves
A goose/turkey or duck too big & expensive, we're happy with chicken (if we even get a whole bird in for ourselves)
tins of chocs - hubby is a chocoholic and prefers a solid bar of chocolate or a chocolate orange, any day of the week.
Decorations - have loads & every year seem to give some away yet still have boxes full!
Booze - always seem to get given it, but rarely drink.
Dates, figs, nuts in shells, yule log & "Christmas cheeses" never have bought these, and never will!

It'd actually be a shorter list of Christmas stuff we will/do buy!

I do buy mince pies occasionally but not every year (can't make my own as we have no oven at the mo) but as I try to avoid sugar as much as possible I try to avoid them as I would happily eat a boxful if I was allowed to! Do get some savoury snacks (as I love them anyway).
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • i'm not buying sweets - DD2 works at an after school club and she brings loads home......

we usually have a buffet on christmas eve - and the leftovers end up getting binned. This year I know what doesn't get finished - so I'm not buying it!

Last year was our first having a turkey crown instead of a full bird - I just can't afford a free -range turkey at £50+. I got 2 crowns with my Co-op vouchers ( very MSE) and they were lovely - we had one for Christmas lunch and the other for New Year. And because they took less time to cook I enjoyed Christmas more!
