Not buying a turkey crown this year. I hate turkey but cook it at Christmas cos OH likes it. This year he is getting a turkey potion and me and MIL are having lamb instead.0

Booze of any kind apart from beer for Hubby. I don't drink, he only drinks beer, there are a couple of bottles of wine in the cupboad for unexpected guests and anyway, the overwhelming majority of our day visitors refuse drinks on the basis of driving/kids to look after/going out later and we don't do evening parties so booze is a waste of money.
Tins of biscuits and big tins of sweeties. They just get eaten because they're there.
Mince pies from the shops, bleurgh.
Christmas cake ditto.
Any of these vile savories like cheese balls.
Any cheese with "festive" flavourings that no-one in their right minds eat the rest of the year.
Cheap stilton in jars, or any cheese as part of a gift set.
Pre made frozen canapes or "nibbles".
I will spend my entertaining budget on a huge ham, some decent cheese, good pickles and some quality biscuits for cheese instead. With that and some HM mince pies and a Christmas cake plus what I've usually got in the fridge I can produce an impromptu buffet anytime it's required and it's at least proper food rather than all these unsatisfying but fattening nibbles.Val.0 -
Every year i buy a bottle of Baileys or something nice just as a treat but we never drink it. i end up giving it my daughter every year so i'm not going to bother with any alcohol this year.
Hubby wont touch it and the tiniest amount gives me a headache from hell! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Turkey, or any other form of 'joint'-type thing.
We see other family and friends in the lead-up to Christmas, but Christmas lunch is always just my two daughters (19 and 21) and me. One daughter is vegetarian and I eat fish but not meat, so it will be a traditional Christmas dinner in other respects (roast potatoes, veg including sprouts, onion gravy, sage and onion stuffing etc.) but the main item is usually a portion of chicken or similar for the one meat-eater and something vegetarian for the other two.
I'm always amazed how many people seem not to like Christmas cake. It's probably the edible treat I love most about Christmas. Mmmmmm...
Nuts in shells, however, I can't imagine buying. They are a right royal pain and I hate finding myself chewing bits of shell when I think I've got the nuts out fairly intact!
ButterflyBrain, is there an Aldi equivalent to Lindt Lindor (which I absolutely love)? I'd really like to try it.Life is mainly froth and bubble

Also I dont buy brandy butter as we dont like it
Neither of those for us either, and these will be added to my list of "Christmas no shows"
Gammon joint - hate it, ever since childhood - I used to think the cloves were bluebottles:eek:
Mince pies
A supermarket "cheeseboard", mostly comprises cheese which you would never normally buy - for a very good reason;)
Turkey in any shape or form - there are only two of us, and we prefer a good quality (maybe Poulet de Bresse) chicken with all the trimmings.
Duck or Goose fat - no point, just puts more weight on, and the missus loves my tatties as they are:o
Champagne - no way am I paying £15 plus, when you can get good Cava for way less than a tenner.
Bah Humbug!0 -
No biscuits, cake, chocolates or sweets I have been dieting for ages now and halve lost 1.1/2 stoneso do not want to put any back on.
I am going to my DD for christmas dinner and off to Prague on Boxing day for a couple of nights. So no food to buy in.Slimming World at target0 -

That must be "Pollygobble potion", guarenteed to induce snoring two hours after being drunk;)0 -

I love the toffees, I don't like the soft centres though. I won a tin of the Quality Street toffees and Caramels when they came out and they didn't taste the same. ....... Tesco Value toffees 30p and they're lovely!CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
