Pickled walnuts - used to get them for my great Uncle who would have one or two and we were left with a jar. Sadly he's now passed away and we do miss him, but not the walnuts
My Dad loved Thornton's toffee, and I miss buying it for him every Christmas. He knew he was going to get it (along with other presents which were surprises in varying degrees!) but loved it just the same. (I know it bears very little resemblance to pickled walnuts, but you know what I mean!:p)Life is mainly froth and bubble

To me it is utterly Christmassy and I have a single glass most days (OK maybe two on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day) as long as it lasts, which is usually just nicely around New Year. Perfect with Christmas cake or 'mice' pies.:D
Can you recommend a nice, cheap sherry for me? Sounds lovely, I can just imagine me with a small glass by the fire
I wont buy an xmas pud as I have one put away that I made last year, Im planning on making a couple more this year to store away again.
Ive bought a tin of chocs (but not Roses or anything Nestle) but the kids love the odd choc, and so do my friends lol I wont buy any selection boxes though.
Ive got a small biscuit selection but I like to go into Lidl's for those, we rarely have biscuits in the house so dont mind some nice ones at xmas.
I do bake mince pies but I'll be honest - I wont bake that many purely cos I cant be bothered :rotfl: So I'll get the odd box to warm up on occasion!0 -
Loose nuts!!
Saw them in MrT's at the weekend, me and DH both instantly walked towards them...... I love them! Had to actually say out loud 'We don't need them. We aren't buying them. Absolutely not!'
Manged to not buy them lol
Im with you on this - I find myself wanting to buy nuts, dates etc, when do I ever eat dates, or even WANT to eat dates? I'll tell you - never!! :rotfl:
(Ok I tell a lie, I'll make chutney with them but thats it!)
Its like that bit on the xmas episode of 'Bottom' - 'but why do we have to have sprouts anyway?'
'BECAUSE ITS CHRISTMAS'(I love sprouts tho
)
I remember my gran would always have a box of those 'eat me' dates on the table at xmas, and I think thats what makes me want to buy them lol0 -
I've bought a christmas pudding (99p) that I'll cut up into six portions so that will last a long time after Christmas
I've bought a tin of Celebrations (plastic container so can use it for storing homemade cake after) for my friends who like chocolate, I opted for Celebrations rather than Quality Street/Roses as there is less wastage..
I'll be making some eccles cakes instead of mince pies... they freeze well and I like them.
Been buying presents throughout the year for the people I buy for. I have a tradition of making friends a decoration for their tree instead of making/buying cards... normally try to make them fairly flat so they can go large letter post..
This year instead of my normal feeling a bid sad for myself and making a dinner, I'm being very MSE and going to a Crown carvery the day before and getting a takeaway dinner, I'll make my own stuff because its the best I've ever had (the left over will freeze). I've had a takeaway carvery before and warmed it up in the oven and it was totally fine.. so apart from the stuffing and maybe a bit of extra veg, it will cost £4.10.
The best bit will be hardly any dishes... YAY0 -

TBH I usually just buy El Cheapo own-brand stuff in whatever not-very-expensive supermarket I'm in. I'm sure I've bought Asda's and I think last year it was Aldi's, and I was very happy with both. I like the dark stuff though, like your granny would have in the cupboard, not pale cream and definitely not sophisticated Amontillado or other dry sherry!;)Life is mainly froth and bubble

I'm NOT buying:
Nuts
Dates
Boxes of biscuits (going to pick up some packets of biscuits we actually like and pop them in the biscuit tin instead)
Pringles
Weird cheeses (I WILL get nice cheese I like though!)
Random chutneys (have red onion chutney I picked up a month a ago, and will be making chili jam myself anyway).
Christmas cake (made it)
Christmas pudding (not a big fan)
Yule log (as no one REALLY likes it - they like the idea of it)
Gingerbread house kit - BUT we did last year and it was fab. This year I've invested in the cutters from lakeland so I can make my own for years to come without having to re-buy every year!
Tree chocolates - they get forgotten!
Candy canes - no one really likes them
Advent calendars (although I REALLY want one - we normally forget to open ours, and DD has a homemade one that I'll pop chocolates into instead.)
Real tree (have an artificial one)
Decorations (already have plenty, although I have just bought some new cheap lights for the tree as our other died. Also we pick up 1 new ornament for the tree each year - got this year's one already.)
Wreath for the door (have an artificial one for inside, outside it would probably blow away!)
Turkey - no one likes turkey really - parents are buying the meat, and it'll be 2 chickens!
Mince Pies - I make them, but see below in the other list too... lol
Random liquors - I only really like baileys and I already have some! OH doesn't drink.
Cards - have lots I bought cheap after Christmas last year.
Paper - pretty sure I have enough left from last year and I picked up a few rolls of cheap (not mega cheap, kind of the next level up - slightly less see through!) paper from homebargains a few weeks ago.
Table decorations - it we were not elsewhere (currently always at in laws or my parents for Christmas lunch) I might buy some, but absolutely no need at the moment!
I WILL buy / HAVE bought:
Tub of celebrations (normally don't buy tubs/tins of sweets but this is a pressie from the elves on Christmas Eve for the whole family - plus I'll use the tub after for home baking!)
Chocolate coins for DD (she loves chocolate coins!)
Wine (I don't buy much, I have my favourites, so I'll stock up!)
Mince pies - I buy the odd pack from late October through until making mine do keep me going!! lol
Probably missed some bits!
Clare xAddicted to Disneyland Paris!

I will not be buying:
Christmas Pudding - No-one in the family likes it, only get one when the parents come for the day
Christmas Cake - As above!
Turkey- For some reason my eldest always throws up after turkey so for the last few years ive bought a big chicken, much bloomin cheaper!
Nuts - im allergic to them, I always crave them (as I love them) and usually end up eating some and being ill, so we have a nut ban on the house.
Alcohol - I dont drink and DH never seems to want any on christmas day
Candy Canes - both kids always say they want them and then say they dont like them when we get them
The 3 for £5 tubs of crispy bits like cheese footballs and twiglets - never get eaten
Pickled Onions - Why? just why? thats all I have to say, yet each year I buy a jar
Chocolates for the tree - I make my owncut little boxes out and put an elizabeth shaw mint inside
What I will Buy:
Pringles - eldest and DH love them and its the only time I buy them
Matchmakers - For eldest as he's a coeliac and cant have the sweets in the tin
Chocolate cake & gluten free pudding - For all of us for after dinner nothing to heavy though
Small box of crackers and cheddar cheese - DD's favouriteSPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £25/£10000
