Baileys - I love it but last year my mother got a little too tipsy thinking it was just a flavoring for her coffee!

Well I wasn't buying Santa outfits for the tots, but having just been in to home bargains with them in tow, I now appear to be £10 worse off and have a 2yo in a Xmas fairy dress and a nearly 4yo dressed as the man himself, watching the grinch :D

A far-too-big bird for a family of two adults and two little ones under four. Last year I spent about £40 on a huge capon as we don't like turkey. It was so unnecessary and yes I know you can portion/freeze the left overs but who really wants the hassle of doing that?? This year I'm setting myself a budget of £10 and buying a big free range chicken and thats that! :rotfl:

    Hi
Where did you get a capon from ? (its a man chicken with its nuts removed internally ) and supposed to be illegal in UK. Cant understand why France etc can still produce them. Blue eyed EU boys :/

  • I won't be buying the following:

Advocar...Literally nobody drinks it but for some reason I always think SnowBalls would be a really nice idea. (They never are!)

Baileys - I love it but last year my mother got a little too tipsy thinking it was just a flavoring for her coffee!

Agree with the food! I will be making lots of the treats this year such as

    - Peppermint creams
    - chocolate truffles and solid truffles (so easy but saves so much money!)
    - A Christmas cake
    - homemade fruit and veg crisps (parsnip, beetroot, apple etc. - really delicious but they cost a bomb in the shops!)
    - Home made alcoholic ginger beer - I have a recipe that only takes 2 days and it's delicious
    - Sloe Gin (been fermenting away for a couple of months now!)

Basically - I'm on a mission to pay out as little as possible! I've even been making my own Christmas decorations out of ribbon, canvas, felt etc. so that I'm not tempted by the rustic looking (and frankly over priced) decorations in the shops!

Would you like to share your recipe for the ginger beer please? :D

    2. Surprise presents for the kids as they don't even get played with half the time and end up in the a charity bag.
    3. Smellies - ditto for the charity bag.
    4. Wrapping paper- have over a dozen rolls unopened.
    5. Any more tat christmas decorations. Classy decs only.

My only concession to Christmas this year are mince pies (good offer at Lidl atm) and Christmas cake, as I had kits left over from last year, and I really like it. Oh yes and stalking out the good offers on spirits, but that's to stock up for the year ahead.

Other than that, there will be no Christmas expenditure at the supermarket.
