    Hi
Yes, you can claim under the Sales of Goods Act 1979 ; fit for purpose and durability since it is not fit for purpose at the moment and it did not last a reasonable length of time.

  • He was 13lb 13 at his 7 week check. I've not dared get him weighed since!:o

    :rotfl:

little (!) roo was 6 weeks at his check and he weighed just over 14lbs. the GP suggested a diet  to begin with he was gaining a pound a week and bouncing up the centile chart from the 50th to the 98th before reaching 9 weeks old but it did level off and he stayed at the 98th. he's 20 months old now and still not quite 15kg so his maclaren pram is okay for a week or so :rotfl:

i remember trying to lug the infant carrier about with a huge heavy baby in it, not very easy, i had to stop for inhaler breaks before getting to the door of playgroups :D my sister was clever, she bought a travel system when hers was born.

i hope you get yours back soon!

Those centile charts are great, early on our daughter was over 95% for height and head circumference, but only 25% for weight. The picture this conjured up of a tall thin girl with a massive head was most amusing, particulalry when she was showing worrying signs of being a red-head, we were convinced we had a giant match stick.

    She looks quite normal now.

  • probably shouldn't laugh but that was really funny :D

roo's head and height were at the top of the centile charts, he was born scrawny and if he hadn't put on so much weight he would have looked like mister burns (from the simpsons) :D

gingham have we gone off topic? :rotfl:

i used the infant carrier in the car until he was nearly 6 months old, and if he hasn't been so tall it would have lasted even longer, so a travel system seems well worth having.

I've still not got my pram back and I'm getting heartily fed up. It came back from Britax supposedly 'fixed' but the shop said they could barely get it to fold down so they didn't want to give me it back. They are trying to find me a replacement but it's dragging on and dragging on and by the time I get it back he'll be too big for the bloomin car seat anyway.

    What can I do?!

    Hi
My son was a hearty eater too, putting on at least a pound a week for some time, he was too heavy for a usual rear facing baby carseat at about 12 weeks old and obviously, we were loathe to sit him forward facing, so had to look around for a baby seat which took heavier babies, if I recall there was only one on the market at the time. What I am trying to say is that maybe you could look at the options of a seperate carseat and pram, as you might find you need a new rearfacing car seat soon anyway.
Congratulations on the baby, and good luck on getting an outcome you are happy with!

I feel I need to clarify what I have just posted. I just looked in the Argos catalogue, and the carseats available now appear to go up to 13kg, (when DS was a baby they only did up to 9kg and I had to get an expensive 13kg one later IYSWIM).
So maybe you won't need a new one so soon... lol
*image of 13kg 3-month-old* scared me! He was hungry, but not quite THAT hungry!
    good luck anyway.

OK Gingham, I have a theory on this. It's been dragging on for over a month which is silly you need to get shouty on them (or more shouty if you've already done it!) Well not shouty, ok I'll demonstrate.

Option one: Go back to the shop (or ring them up) or option 2 contact Britax's travel system 'helpline' on 01159 306700

Essentially your main points with both are that you have been waiting for over a month, you have been reasonable, you have been patient but you are not willing to be either for much longer. You will help them in anyway you can but they have to help you. They must either fix the pram by x date or they must give you a suitable replacement (even if the shop has to get one directly from Britax!) you are not going to settle for anything else given the time frame. Be firm but polite and nice, and tell them what you want and when you want it by, 99% of the time it works very well.

Hope that helps and I hope you get it fixed soon!

Edit: Just realised that's pretty much what they're doing now, I recommend just keep on at them, give them a cut off date, perhaps it might be an idea to have a go at Britax yourself see if that will chivvy things along?

  • oh gingham that's rubbish :(

it's been more than 28 days now hasn't it, i thought they had to sort it out within that time frame but i suppose the shop sending it back may have given them longer to sort it out.

i hope you get somewhere on the phone!

is the pram still worth the money as a pram even if you're not getting the use as a travel system?

incidentally if, as mrs bartolozzi says you need a bigger car seat the only combination (rear and forward facing) i could find at the time was the britax first class si. it cost over a hundred but was the only option, my friend bought one too. we both had tall babies who grew out of their first car seats by the age of 6 months and weren't ready for forward facing. my baby didn't weigh 13kg (hers did though), he was just tall. i remember when my first was a baby the infant carriers only went up to 9kg, now they're usually 13kg but still not big enough for many babies under 9months, unless i just know lots of enormous children.

Thanks, folks. The thing that's really annoying me is that I had a first class but got rid of it because I thought isofix would be safer. And I got the pram because it lay flat for newborn, which of course he no longer needs. And yes, the travel system is going to be no use to us soon enough because even if he can still fit in the seat (which he will for a while I imagine, I won't be able to lift it.

The woman dealing with it will be in tomorrow so I'm going to go in and 'have words'.;) :D
