Since having the water meter fitted we now wash up on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Anyone who knows me finds this hilarious as I can't stand a messy kitchen!LeoLasagne wrote: »One load of dishes a day. This is my new challenge, as I seem to constantly run a bowl of water for only a few dishes. Will attempt to leave all dishes until dinner this evening has been eaten!
After tax and NI my bonus will only be £200. I might just spend £50 on myself (I don't have a waterproof coat!) and then pay the rest off a CC. After all, my whole tax rebate was swallowed up buying the new sofa-bed just so DS2 and his GF have somewhere to sleep when they visit every month. In effect I spent nothing on myself from that!Pernicious wrote: »Stitchy - Just make use of free internet, heating etc & relax for that extra hour
Congratulations on the bonus! Will you put it straight towards debt or treat yourself?

Couple of ideas here:
:DSell you old boiler to a boiler breaker to reclaim some cash that way. (Works in the same way as selling your car to a scrap dealer.)
:DConsider buying a refurbished/reconditioned boiler instead of a new one. Article about it here.
Ohhhhhh thanks for that Ally :T I have never heard of boiler breakers so off to do some research into that and ..... hadn't even considered a reconditioned/refurbished one
so will keep that in mind too.
Fingers crossed it does continue to work OK for a while yet - it's been regularly serviced it's whole life & last time the engineer said it was fine & should last a while if it's serviced each year .... it's just getting the parts are difficult now as it's so old they don't make them anymore so if something does break .... that's it

If you can't find a boiler breaker there's always scrap metal merchants. Anyone who replaces boilers should be able to point you in the right direction; after all a lot of these tradesmen/women sell on the old boilers they replace for scrap.
When comparing scrap prices you can tell ferrous from non-ferrous metal with an ordinary fridge magnet. And if you happen to have any copper appliances scrap copper prices are fantastic just now.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -

I had a look at the odds.
The chances of winning the EM smallest prize is 1 in 23.
The chances of winning the EM biggest prize is 1 in 116,531,800.
The chances of winning the UK National Lottery smallest prize is 1 in 56.7.
The chances of winning the UK National Lottery biggest prize is 1 in 13,983,816.
You therefore have more chance of winning the EM than the NL.
Good luck!
