white lines help please

during a complete relaying of the road surface on my street the highways team replaced the white lines of a T junction nowhere near the original position due to admitted error by the contractor by not being given plans nor being able to follow the marks placed on the kerbstones by the highways engineer now the lines instead of tying into the kerb are directing traffic using the main road straight into the middle rear end of cars parked in parking bays despite saying they were in the wrong place some highways guys said the original were illegal for over 20 years despite being repainted only 2 years ago.
is there any option but to accept this change or is it entrapment of motorists into dangerous life threatening situations ?

many thanks , my first post :)

    What are you on about?
  • Do I have to accept these changes or is there a legal right to have them restored to their original position ?

What on earth are you on about ???? try typing a google street view link on here so at leastwecan see what the junction was like.

All road markings HAVE to comply with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Direction 2002 regs, if they dont comply explicitly to them then they are non compliant, they also have to comply with the Traffic Regulation Order for that particular street.

tell us what markings they are and where they are

  • They are now 3 feet into the main road and join into the middle a line of parking bays

    So where's the entrapment?

Could well be the case they have moved them forward so that traffic coming out of the junction can see past the parked cars ?

Legally theres bu gger all you can do about something like that apart from raising your concerns to the Highways dept at the council.

The onus though is on the driver to be aware at all times of the road conditions and markings. As I said there is nothing illegal that they have done and very little you can do about it.

BTW entrapment - In criminal law, entrapment is conduct by a law enforcement agent inducing a person to commit an offense that the person would otherwise have been unlikely to commit.

HOW will the lines force a driver into an accident?
