  • Went to local Comet today - they are trading until after Xmas and taking stock from other stores. yes, the manufacturers warranty still applies & is at it's basics as good as you would get anyway - just a bit of localized service would be missing. Bought a most acceptable Hotpoint dishwasher, satisfied price well discounted from about £345 - £205 - this is genuine after checking against Tesco Curry's and others. Collecting tomorrow using own transport. D. (better not mention proper name) very helpful indeed, feels he is being a bit short changed by Administrators Deloitte but this is pretty typical. Go for it !

Hey guys, my mom bought a tassimo hot drinks maker for £80 comet "sale" when the exact same model was avalable online for £45 -_-
I took it into comet with a receipt and the maker still sealed and they refused a refund claming that they were in administration. can i get my money back? if not, what if i open it and its faulty? then what?

dont they have to deal with faulty items rather than manufacturer? i read that on this very website!

As item isnt faulty they dotn have to give a refund.
  • I read (on bbc) that there are further discounts starting today! Probably an extra 5% or something...

Arnt people saying "you still Get the Mftures Gtee" missing something? Suppose you want to claim out of warranty under the SOG act?
  • I bought a washing machine from comet on sunday (I did check the "normal" prices online before I actually bought it, and saved about £50 which is good enough for me)

They said it would be delivered yesterday, but it hasn't come. I have rang the store but they are now closed. I called head office/the customer service centre and they said I need to write a letter to the administration team.

What do I do? From what I've read Comet are not offering refunds on any items, and if my washer doesn't turn up and I don't get a refund, I will be very angry!

How did you pay for it? If it was on a card, speak to the card issuer about a charge back.

If it was on cash then you should have paid for it on a card :)
  • If you can demonstrate you paid for the item whilst they are in administration you will get your money back if the order can not be fulfilled, regardless of the payment method. It might be a hassle to write to them etc, but dont worry!
  • thanks both - i paid by debit card.

Going to go to one of the open stores tomorrow to see if they can help. if not, i will write a letter.

I have an Hitachi Microwave, still just under warranty which seriously ceased to function (burnt not only the food but melted the microwave container!). The Comet shop said we had to go back to the Manufacturer.

Hitachi's response - no Comet are still handling1st years warranty repairs and gave me a number to ring

Comet's reponse - not it is Hitachi's responsibilty

Hitachi's response - Comet have got it wrong - (they refused my request to email me their statement- or to put me through to anyone who could email me their statement - but did give me a different number to phone)

Comet's response - no it is Hitachi' responsibility and gave me the Delotties web address and referred me to the FAQ's.

Deloitte's Web Site FAQ - "All products will be sold with a manufacturer's warranty. this warranty should be registered once the item is purchased. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase in case the manufaturer needs to inspect it. In the case of Comet Branded Goods you should contact the Comet Customer Support Centre"

Hitachi's response (managed to speak to a different person this time). Hitachi Eu do not make microwaves - this is in fact a Comet Branded Product (?!!!) you need to talk to them

Comet's response - Yes in fact this is correct! you have to put a claim into the Administrator!!!! The microwave was less than £100 so that is it then!

In our innocence when considering a range of "easy to use" small Microwaves (my Mother is in her 90's) we selected this one because we knew the name Hitachi and the others we looked at had names we did not recognise and were concerned about after sales service and spare parts - our previous microwave having lasted a good number of years!!!!!!:(

    I despair!
