Is 1.2MB/sec between hard drives slow transfer?

  • Obviously the read speed on the 1TB disk you are transferring from is the bottleneck.

Stabbing in the dark you could try different controller ports or swapping SATA cables.

You could also try a chkdsk to check for bad sectors on it.

Post #27 says no bad sectors according to chkdsk.

I've just realised i've not yet disconnected the drive from the PCI card. I need to try connect the drive to the MOBO & instead connect one of the optical drives to the PCI card.

You didn't do a bad sector check.

    Rerun with chkdsk /r

or if using the GUI, check the "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" - it will take a very long time.

    I connected to the MOBO

It caused a problem as Windows wouldn't boot. I'm on a triple boot & i was getting bootMGR (something to that effect) error messages.

Anyway, changed the HDD order & it worked, but then i kept getting BSODs on my C drive. I think/hope that's sorted now.

Anyway just ran the check again:

Did you change ports by disconnecting the SATA cables and swapping at the harddrive or motherboard? I'm wondering if you have a cabling problem.

Instead of running the cable from the drive to the card, i ran it from the drive to the motherboard.

Have ordered a much more costly card. PCIe this time. £30 vs the £5. Brand name StarNow. Never heard of them, but had it recommended on ebuyer. Hopefully it works.
