You mean like me last week. Waiting for a parcel - expected it last Monday. Delayed going out - so i could accept it.

Stood at window and saw potsman walking up my path. No parcel in his hand - no knock on door (i heared letterbox go). Oh well, i thought - i'm sure it will come tomorrow.

So i got my coat to go out - where i was greeted by a 'while you were out' card from your 'meat head' colleague.

Swears blind he banged on the door for ages. He's a LIAR!

That's exactly what our postie used to do with every single parcel (he used to hire the pre-written card right in the middle of all of the other post. I once surprised him and opened the door, and asked for the parcel. Of course, he didn't even have it with him.

I do my job properly. I've been asked to leave parcels in recycle bins, sheds, under patio tables, wheelie bins etc. I don't sign or leave recorded parcels.

Have you not seen the instructions on parcels from some of the major online and high street stores? It says "Safe place if no answer. No signature needed". Only following customer instructions!!!!

It's still not allowed. Ask your manager. And !!!!!! whoever thought a wheely bin as a safe place? Full of rubbish? First time any postie puts stuff of mine in a bin he'll get reported for it. Former colleague or not. Don't you realise it's because of postie's like you that hours are being cut left right and centre. The only ones you are allowed to do it with are the tracked ones that specify a safeplace. But hey ho, it's ur job!

    What isnt allowed?

Safeplace is a perfectly acceptable option. If the customer says 'under the dog poo' then that is deemed a Safeplace. That poster didn't quantify it wasnt tracked. In fact he says he doesn't do it with recorded.

Like it or not, it's nothing to do with hours being cut? How very odd.

The customer!!! And as you know the customer is always right!!

Read the post before blaming me for hours been cut. Which incidentally is not happening. Yep it's my job and as I've said I've had no complaints.

I'm now one of those "meat headed" postman and yes I've left parcels in wheelie bins.

If you were my postie and idiotically left parcels in my wheelie bin I would report you to the highest authority, just as I have done before.

My meat headed postie left a recorded delivery parcel in my wheelie bin. I left no sign saying that this was acceptable, and he left me no card to say that it was in there. It was only by chance that I spotted it in the bottom as I was about to dump a bag in there otherwise it would have been lost in a landfill forever more.

Another thread proving that recorded delivery is a waste of money for Ebay sellers.

The only way an item should be left in the wheely bin is if there is written instructions left at the DO by the customer from the postie. You sign for a parcel, it's fraud. End of.

Think about it. Your customer (or receiver of goods) tells you to sign for parcels and put them in the wheelie bin. You oblige. Wee jimmy smith is watching you do it and nicks the parcel. Customer then starts complaint procedures because they've not received their parcel. Of course, tracking shows it's been signed by you.

    Good luck with that one...
