Time to reform the TPS and stop nuisance sales calls

Some of these callers are foreign and not subject to UK law (TPS etc.) But even UK callers are a pain. When you answer, you could advise them you are registered with the TPS - Also, advise them that you charge £10.00 per minute for consultation fees and what is their name and telephone number please? As you are legally entitled to charge them for your time.

If they ask to speak to the owner - simply say "E ain't 'ere, we rent this place!" - When they ask when he will be there simply say " Never see 'im - e don't care about this place." - CLICK! Their gone!
    :T
If they have a long blurb - Don't hang up; just put the 'phone down and go about your business for five minutes or so - you may hear the occasional "Hello?" - but more often they will get fed up and you will have cost them a bit of their time and telephone bill, and their automatic random number dialler cannot move on until they disconnect!
    :rotfl:
Oh! and Never, NEVER! Confirm anything they say they know - ie "You have a BT contract..." - 'Do I? - sorry I do not confirm or deny personal information to telephone callers'
Hope this helps - If so, please tell your friends...

Hmmm... only 62 signatures in a month

What's more, even in the unlikely event you do get the required number of signatories (is it 100, 000?) then with the petition open until next year, there won't be enough time left in this administration to get any legislation passed anyway.

I'll give it a miss. A nice idea, but unfortunately poorly executed.

I've been with TPS for years and still get plagued with calls. Although they do seem to come in batches - lots for a week or two then a break with none.

However I've invested in a new Panasonic phone which can bar up to 30 numbers (can't do anything with the 'withheld' but as long as there is a number displayed can bar it). It's a great feeling to zap these sales calls into the blocked list. I've 8 so far, so will have to delete the earlier ones when I reach 30)

Barred callers get the engaged tone and are then cut off. They appear on the callers list with a special sign, so I know that one barred caller has rung me 4 times in the past 2 days without me hearing the phone.

Now if only I could solve the problem of occasional voice fading while I'm using phone, I'll be completely happy with Panasonic. Told to switch to speaker phone if voice fades, so I'm waiting until next time it happens to see if this works.

I find that a few choice posts about the miscreants in question on www.WhoCallsMe.com both naming the actual sales agent involved (if you can get a name) and specifying what their company is doing wrong in legal terms can be almost as or more effective.

After a few such posts some of the data suppliers who the miscreant callers were buying their numbers from (but not bothering to TPS check my number to increase their profits from data vending) suddenly seem to have completely expunged my number from their databases (especially the one it was clearly previously on as a favoured target for boiler room investment scam merchants) and a blissful silence has once again settled upon my phone during day time hours.

Of course one has to guard against being sued for libel if one is too choice with one's language about the miscreants but as these people know they are basically breaking the law and are short term get rich quick merchants on the whole that seems an unlikely problem.

I am of course mainly thinking about the UK based operations engaged in selling dodgy investments or pursuing PPI or Personal Injurry claims. You can forget any hope that the boys in India care what UK callers say about them. Although for some odd reason I have had many fewer calls from the Indian call centre fraternity this year than in the preceding few years. Perhaps the realisation that their UK customer can still face action for using dodgily acquired data has finally begun to dawn on them.

Also the more this exploitation continues I think the lower their conversion rate on calls with gullible punters tends to become..........
