Time to reform the TPS and stop nuisance sales calls

And how will most of us then receive our broadband?
If you don't need to use the handset for any incoming calls, then just switch it to silent.
I meant landline as in landline telephone. People will just disconnect them (in the unplugging sense, not the cancellation of the line itself) ours has been unplugged to clear room, and is only plugged in on the rare occasion we need to phone tax credits line or some other 0845 number0 -
I registered some ten years past, and do not receive such calls, nor have done so. I guard who I give my numbers to. I also run a business on the same number and am not awash with so called Elves ans Rafty calls either. If I do not nose the number, it goes to the answer phone first.mif a new customer rings in, if it is a landline, I will answer.
Simple.
So yet another waste of electrons, I will not be digitising this wasted effort as well.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!

"I would like the TPS to be regularted in order that companies who make unwanted sales calls can be prosecuted and fined.
The TPS has no powers to prevent companies from making unwanted sales calls. It is responsibility of ICO to enforce the law.
The ICO has the power to fine companies up to £500,000 but this rarely happens as companies use legal loopholes to claim they are making legitimate calls.
Despite registering with TPS, people are still harrassed by sales calls without action being taken.
Whether its double glazing, PPI or energy grants - companies flout the law knowing they have little chance of being prosecuted.
Such calls are a misery to those who receive them with some companies phoning the same number many times per day.
The TPS is a toothless organisation which needs sweeping new powers and widespread reform to reduce the number of unwanted calls and prosecute persistent offenders
We need new laws for TPS, ICO and OFCOM to tackle the problem together and stop passing the buck to each other over the issue."
If you don't want this one thrown out due to improper wording, I suggest you edit it...zayt nisht meshugge0 -
i know its not very nice ,but after several calls from the same company selling conservatory blinds ,i said someone was at the door and could they hold on , i then put the phone in the bedroom and went and made a cup of tea ! 4 hours later the phone was dead ! was highly satisfying !0

When I had a landline phone I registered it with the TPS and noticed no difference whatsoever. I was getting same annoying calls for months afterwards.
I don't get any unwanted calls on my mobile. I wonder why only landline phones are affected.0 -
TPS = Totally Pointless Service in a nutshell, it does about as much good as a chocolate fireguard, registering with them just adds you to another database to be bought and sold.
The only number I ever give out is my mobile (I use an app for blocking calls from withheld and non-phonebooked numbers), never ever my landline, that seems to have worked after I moved house and thus changed tel. number.
This way, in theory, the only people who know my landline is myself, my immediate family and my telecoms provider whom are aware that I have explicably stated that I am to remain ex-directory etc.. thus they'll be in breach of data protection if they circulate my details in a database. Ofc this won't stop those random diallers but its helped so much that so far I haven't had a single cold-call in over a year.0 -

ive just received a call and told the person that im actually registered with the tps and she asked do i update my details every month, i told her no and she said i need to do that. is that correct? why should people have to update their details every month to stop these nuisance calls?
That is nonsense, a cold call company told me I wasn't on the database, the TPS confirmed I was. These companies are filthy liars.0 -
I registered many years ago with the TPS and saw a massive reduction in my unwanted calls. Now I keep getting spam calls which show as international so from now on I will not respond to any of them. They have gone from PPI to Pensions now! I am aware that the TPS cannot stop these calls.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Do you have a caller display on your phone?0

We were being pestered several times a day. Got the Trucall gadget and now only get the calls we want. All the nuisance calls are blocked.
It is not cheap (around £95), but hopefully it will last many years.
Worth every penny for the resulting reduction in annoyance and increase in happiness....0
