echeque not cleared

Soolin is quite right - don't ever think you can get a free payment through PayPal!
Buyers often don't seem to know why their payment gets turned into an e-chq and the e-chqs seem to take a totally random time to clear!
I have decided just to take a deep breath and stay calm till it clears, but always e-mail buyer, because otherwise you might get the blame for the delay!:eek:0 -
The ones I get almost always take 10 days to clear, so because of the bank holiday I would expect to add on another 2 days.0

I have posted an item today which has a pending e-cheque, buyer has good feedback and I am next week when it will be probably clear.0

You can refund an e-cheque - I've done it; you click on the 'Refund' button at the bottom of the page and it automatically rejects it. I did it after consultation with the buyer - he didn't want to wait and we mutually decided on Bank Transfer; iit was for an amount of over £500.
I've since advised friends who sell on eBay how to do it and it's always worked perfectly. The extra days, over and above the clearance date you were given, will be due to Easter - PayPal only estimate on working days for clearance.I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.0 -
Paypal are being really bad with this. LAst month I had to wait over 2 weeks for a echeque to clear, but I understood it was paypal's fault not the buyers. I have no paid for 2 items and paypal turned them into echeques and I have no understanding of why and the sellers are not happy. They have been showing as uncleared for 2 and a half weeks. So much for their "4 days" it is terrible and causes so much trouble. What goes around comes around0

4 days is the time for clearing in the U.S. - UK PayPal quote 7/9 working days; yet another way for PP to rip off UK buyers and sellers by sitting on the money and making interest! :mad:I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.0 -
How did you refund an uncleared e-cheque? The money isn't there in the first place to be able to refund

You can only make the refund once the payment clears.
I had a echeque a few months ago over christmas, after waiting 10days it failed to clear, and the buyer sent a 2nd echeque! Luckily the 2nd one did clear, but it meant the buyer didn't get their goods until nearly a month after winning!!!Do You Twitter?

Yeah I though you could only refund it once it's cleared but LULUBELLE said she refunded it before it cleared

I had the same problem when buying in December from Ebay.
It took a couple of weeks to pay the seller, and did not know why.
It was not until February, that I found out why.
A seller cancelled my 'Paypal ' purchase and said did not accept echecks, only Paypal.
I looked into it and the reason it was sent by echeck was that my backup Visa card had expired at the end of November.
The problem went away immediately when I amended my credit card details and payments now go through instantly as Paypal.
