edit - just phoned O2 and asked; those calls in tariffs with X-net minutes, some may not in ones with O2 and landlines only0 -

How do you use the pre-dial orange/o2 numbers to dial uk non-geographic numbers?
Does it work on 0870 / 0871 / 0844s?I think....0 -

They prob are fading them out over time cos I was on voda contract (singlepoint) years and years ago and they started charging for 0845, etc calls back then.
So prob over time all networks will charge for 0845, 0870, etc. Thank god for sites like http://www.saynoto0870.com0 -

The method is to dial the access number, then the desired number. Don't press send after the second number, as this holds the first call and makes a second. To avoid this temptation, save the 2 numbers together with a pause character between.
I also have an O2 phone with 50 min a month free that I save for 0870 and 0845 only, so I don't use the pre-dial a huge amount.
ps Pre-dial and Simply-Fone can also be used for international calls0 -
Something I hadn't noticed before or forgot is that Simply-Fone can be used to access 0870 and 0845 numbers as well. S-F's access number is from included from some mobiles but 3 and Vodafone currently charge

certain tariffs on o2 allow free 0845 0870 0800 calls.. i hope they're not phasing it out.. it's the only reason for being with o2!0
