I believe most Orange networks allow you to ring 0845 numbers in the inclusive free minutes.
The everyday 50 tariff (discontinued for new contracts) definitely does let you ring 0845 and 0870 numbers.0 -

I think it depends on the tariff in question. What I would do is e-mail o2 (or whatever the network provider is) and ask them are calls to 0845 (&0870) included in the free minutes and mention which tariff you are thinking of going on. If they reply yes then keep the email because if you subsequently find out you are getting charged you could (in theory) ask for your money back on the cost of the calls to 0845, etc as you were told they would be free and forward a copy of the email you received stating that.
You have 2 options as far as I can see:-
1. As most (but check with the network) allow you to return/cancel your contract within 14 days then I would - once I had the contract make an 0845 call and wait a few days then ring the network and ask them (or view the bill online if poss) if the call has shown on the bill and if you have been charged. If you have, simply return the phone and ask for contract to be cancelled under their 14 days. You may, under their 14 days, have to pay for any calls you make but see their terms&conditions.
2. Another alternative but is risky and I would recommend taking legal advice from Trading Standards before taking out the contract - and that is I believe (but not sure) that if you buy something based on what someone (ie the official email from o2 stating 0845 calls were free) then after buying this you then discover the calls aren't free, you have a right to return the product. I believe this applies to products as it would have been sold on false pretences (misleading), etc but not sure if it applys to mobile contracts, etc.
If you were serious about trying to cancel the contract because you were told calls to 0845 were free but subseqently found out they werent they option 1 is easiest and safest. Option 2 (even after getting confirmation from Trading Standards before you purchase the contract) may involve a lot of messing around and even if neccesary taking it to a small claims court if the network didn't want to cancel.
I personally would go for option 1 and avoid option 2. I only mentioned option 2 as a last resort if you were too late and outside the networks 14 day returns policy.
I do not work in anyway in the legal profession and only know bits of the laws from my own person experience and therefore fully recommend you take legal advice beforehand.0 -
*inclusive minutes per standard tariffs: Standard UK landline numbers (includes 0870. 0800, 0845)0

The other option for 0845 from X-net minutes on any mobile is to use the 0779 231 6447 number of https://www.pre-dial.com for call-through access0

guys n gals ,
so, i think we all agreed that O2 is 0845 friendly ,so any GOOD 12 months (free line rental even !) deals around? on any handset?0 -
hi Andy88, i have been caught out before by '3' with this call-thro access ,at least with 0845 (or 0844 even) seems safer. what do you think?0

and lastly , i prefer 0845 as i can still use my mobile and my laptop/plam to go online in the evenings if im staying at hotels to check emails. 0845 0551 861 user name=free ,password is free there used to be a 020 number but cant find it amymore. anyone else knows?0

The 3 problem is with calling the numbers of Simply-Fone which are old Dolphin numbers; 3 claim that it is wrongly being used as a personal number service. We have to hope that 3 have not complained to Ofcom, and that their customers have not explained to them how the S-F deal works. I'd say it is a grey area and the case could be lost.
The Pre-dial numbers are Orange numbers so should not be subject to that problem.
Quite how these companies manage to receive a part of the termination fees for call receipt, that would normally go to the network is a mystery that I imagine is very closely guarded indeed.

Andy, yea you're right I did babble a lot (lol) but was going from my my own experience and from a friend of mine who got a contract based on what the o2 retail guy said which later turned out to be wrong!
I didn't know that o2 retail (their shops) allow 0845, etc calls (just checked their t&c) but I know that tariffs from o2's website (o2 online) charge for calls to 0845, 0870, etc but in return you get 500 free texts per month, or 50% more minutes than normal.
Check out http://shop.o2.co.uk/cgi-bin/o2uk/jsp/tariffs/viewTariffDetails.jsp?prodID=consumer:O2ONLINE:OFF300:GROUP which do state they charge for calls to 0845, etc.
My fault, had I just checked their terms&conditions for their retail tariffs then i'd have known I just naturally thought that o2's online t&c were same as o2 retail except you get 500 free texts or 50% more minutes with their online tariffs.0
