It's probably an age thing but I seem to feel the cold more these days - the double whammy being that I'm retired and home more .
However it feels OK at around 15 centigrade during the day. At around 5pm I light the solid fuel stove - perhaps with an hour boost from the CH. If I'm feeling really chilly I've been known to get under a blanket with a hot water bottle in the small of the back. :(
As it gets warmer, I gradually peel off layers. When it gets to around 19/20 in the lounge, I open the door to upstairs so some heat can get up there.
I've no idea if I am being wildly extravagant or if this is par for the course

  • I'm at home today (on my own) so will try not to put my heating on too much.

It was on for an hour first thing this morning and the temp here in large living room is now 16.8, will put it on for another hour in a minute. Then another hour or two tonight. Will use hot water bottles too
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

We're heating the living room with a calor gas fire; I'm sitting in a nightdress and my husband's full dressed with a heated pad. It's not cold enough for central heating in the daytime.

Sometimes I would like a quick instant heat source but my only alternative to the CH is the multifuel stove which takes a while to get into gear and though it's adjustable to some extent, once it's on, it's on. :(

AgeUK recommend a room temperature of 21c for living rooms, less for bedrooms.

We are about 20c upstairs, maybe slightly less downstairs. This is due to the thermostat being in the warmest room in the house naturally (doh!) and downstairs only having 2 small radiators.

I find 20-21c best for us as a family with young kids (and soon to be newborn)

I wonder how many pensioners achieve that - especially during the day?

I've just moved the thermometer into the living room because we were so hot. It's reading 20C so I can't see how you would want it warmer than that - we've turned it off.
  • No idea what temp it is today in my house, but did 'bubble glazing' this year. It's made a world of difference, maybe only 2/3 degrees extra but WOW! it's taken the edge off a treat! Seriously, if you have some bubble wrap about, try it on the windows. I taped mine up around the edges rather than just wetting it and applying it (cat 'proofing').
I got a load of bubble wrap with a pair or shoes I bought online so thought I'd give it a go, no regrets so far. Just keeping an eye on it incase condensation becomes a problem.

We're in a corner flat. It's about 17C during the day (with only 1/2 an hour heating in the morning, 5pm and 9pm) maybe a couple of degrees colder at night. The living room is probably the coldest room being in the corner of the flat so having two large walls on the outside of the flats - of course when it's in use we have a fair amount of spare heat from my partner, lodger, TV and PC so it ends up OK. The double glazing has really helped!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!
