Anyone who thinks a wood or solid fuel burning stove will be as clean and easy to use as a gas fire is in for a bit of shock.

Agree completely. We have friends who had a solid fuel stove fitted because they liked the look of ours. They are now seriously thinking of changing it for one of those horrid electric mock looking stoves. :o They say a solid fuel stove is such a 'pain' to use. All that storing of logs / coal, bringing it in and keeping the fire going. And (in their words) 'its sooo messy' :rotfl::rotfl:

Good grief - that's the fun bit! I love having a fire to tend!

Exactly! I do think that solid fuel stoves have become a bit of a 'fashion' item to have recently. The reason we went with one at our old house 15 years ago was because of all the power cuts we got. (Overhead lines - out in the 'countryside'!) As there was no mains gas in the village either, it was the only way to go. Loved it from the very beginning! :) Which is why, having moved to a house (again in the countryside with no gas :p) and which had no chimney, we have just spent a small fortune getting a twin walled flue installed.:jLove getting and storing the wood, hubby chopping it up etc. (Good to know a local tree surgeon :T) The house is now so toasty warm. Can't wait for the depts of winter to arrive!!!
