On demand (mixed advice)

I have skyHd+ with wireless adapter.Only taken it out 3-11-12. I have been told so many different tales about when I would get go on demand ,installers said it would automatically download, sky advisor ended up losing my wireless connection until I hung up on her,and all the forums tell me that I have to do a forced download? All that is showing up at the moment is sky anytime but nothing on showcase. Can anyone tell me what to do?

If your box is showing an anytime menu then it is not running the latest software.
Have you performed a forced download?
Turn off the Sky box by holding the power button down until the indicator goes to red. Hold down backup button and power the box up again. Keep holding backup button until the upgrade message appears. Then go and make a cuppa.
You should see an On Demand menu if the box has upgraded.

Check that the network connection is working.
Have you added Catchup to your online Sky account? Log onto your my Sky account to do so.

dont forget it also depends what box you have as well, if your make and model is not in the list then any forced update will not get you the new EPG.

Hi Penrhyn,I did the forced upgrade this morning and got the upgrading message on my TV.Went for my cuppa and came back to what I thought would be an upgraded system but unfortunately still only getting anytime. If it makes any difference I now have some channels in my Library, itv player etc but no bbc I player.I have logged onto my sky account and everything is showing that I should be getting on demand but still no joy. Will try another forced upgrade later or maybe give sky another call.
  • All sorted now.Phoned sky and was informed that my phone line had to be connected to the skybox for the download to be successful, just finished reconnecting my phone line now and the new EPG and on demand have been downloaded.

Why did you disconnect the 'phone in the first place? The box uses a Freephone number to "call home" at monthly intervals, but it costs you nothing unless you are using Pay Per Views. I hope you'll be leaving it connected from now on...

Disconnected the phone line when I was repositioning the tv about 5yrs ago and have never got round to rerunning the cable.I have had sky engineers up a couple of times since then and they have never told me to plug in again.I don't buy pay per view as the sky is expensive as it is.I don't really see the need to be pluged in and I have already disconnected .

My Sky HD+ is not connected to the phone line and updated to the latest software without issues a number of months ago. Software downloads are done via satellite and not through the phone line.

But you have a new box and contract now so t&cs require you to have the box connected to the phone line. Although unless you have multiroom its doubtful they will check.
