Have any of you's tried hypnosis, and did it actually do any good? I want to try it for giving up smoking.

It didnt work for me some 20 years ago, I thought it to be waste of money.
But try it, just because it didnt work for me; it may work for you!
Good Luck0 -
When I was a student midwife my flatmate tried it to give up smoking- they were offering the next session free if it didn't work. She (mostly) gave up smoking for about 2 months, but then the finals hit and she started again. The next session was a total failure and she got her money back."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0

I think i'll buy one of them Paul McKenna CD's first to see how I get on, there only £10 or so, so if it doesn't work no big loss really.0

It didn't work for me, but it worked for my friend although she went back for a second session before she gave up for good0

My mum and dad did this at the beginning of March, both heavy smokers (dad worse) Dad started again the next day and mum still hasnt smoked although she does chew of alot of gum now and told me a couple of weeks ago that if someone offered her one she would take it-but I do know she has been offered and turned them down.
It did make her very away of tobacco smells (the same day) as when she arrived here she told me my house stank! thanks mum.Good enough club member number 140 -
Hi
I've been hypnotised a couple of times for anxiety and confidence (specifically dealing with a boss from hell). I found it absolutely fantastic and the hypnotist set up a trigger point on my gum between my top 2 teeth which, if I pushed it with my tongue would trigger relaxing and confidence memories. It worked incredibly well but husband mocked for a long time - told me it only worked on feeble minded people! Anway he went to try it for smoking and it has worked - he's not smoked for 6 years now. I think it depends on the type of hypnosis and whether or not you really do want to give up - I think if you don;t want to stop and it's just something you feel you should do (family / friends pressure) then it won;t work whatever strategy you use.
Good luck. Any questions just ask - I have to say I really enjoyed it and listen to tape I was given of it (now on my Ipod) almost every week.

i tried it for stopping smoking and tbh it didnt work but she concentrated more on my smoking habits rather than trying to kill the craving, i thought maybe she would put it into my head when i wanted a ciggie to think of the smell which would put me off but no she just really suggested changing my habits ie do something after eating rather than smoking
so in my mind it was a waste of money
a guy in my work kinda stopped by going for the laser in the ear treatment it worked for a couple of days however he missed out on all the chat at the smoke shelter so started again lol0 -
The thing with hypnosis is that it can't make you do what you don't want to do.
You can't 'make' a law abiding person rob a bank through hypnosis.
People who get up on stage and act like a chicken for a stage hypnotist are the sort of people who would probably do that after a pint or two anyway at a family wedding.
Therefore - if you don't WANT to give up smoking, hypnosis will be a waste of time.
If you DO - then it might help. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
