cosjo wrote:hi folks, just wondering if bank staff were not entitled to a lunch break! i work in a bank and believe me people need educating on how to use internet banking or telephone banking, some will wait in a q to pay phone bills or gas bills, these can all be paid on telephone banking therefore allowing space and time for customers to pay in their cheques or cash.
any suggestions when staff should eat their lunch, perhaps on the run or standing at the counter !
Of course if every customer did this, then you'd be out of a job, so that would be your lunch break problem solved
Alternatively, the banks could try being a little more customer friendly and make sure that their tills are sufficiently manned during peak times and stagger/time lunch breaks accordingly......other (less profitable) companies manage it quite easily. Why can't they?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

true comments but with branches the way they are these days ANY member of staff taking lunch at any time leaves them short staffed.
its not when they lunch but how few staff there is that causes the problem.
sign of the times unfortunately

Fine. Sad as it is. But the longer that Joe Public (that's me) has to stand in a poxy queue at lunchtime (that's me by the way  ) the more likely that Joe Public (that's me again - sorry to be a pest) is likely to take their business away. Surely it would be possilbe to take staff lunch breaks a bit earlier, or a bit later, so that staff were available over the rush time.
Or... wait for it..... employ enough staff????Proud to have become an Ocean Rower in 2010 (crossed the Atlantic in a crew of 4 ladies and had the best 77 days of my life!)0 -

But wouldn't that involve putting customer needs before profit??
Shakey ground there I think!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
