Hope I didn't offend with the 'cheap houses' comment, it is just that a one bed flat in Bristol costs £120K, so I couldn't believe you could get a 3 bed house for £75K.
Gurnos is near the hospital isn't it? One to avoid?

If you can find me a decent 3 bed in merthyr let me know!!
There are some good buys in the gurnos (people tend to buy these as buy to let) personally I wouldn't live there .......if you can find a decent one with neighbours that have bought their own properties its better than not knowing who is going to turn up next door to you..houses there seem to be snapped up pretty quick due to increased demand for BTL for migrant workers in nearby factories......if your interested in a property pm me with the details and i'll give you my opinion on the area if that helps x good luck£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -

Troedyrhiw is south of merthyr and is ok as far as I know....nothing bad to say about the place other than look for properties off the main road. Caeharris is Dowlais Top which has a landfill site not far and IMHO you can smell the tip (think eggs)when you drive through there esp in summer months..again if you are looking here try and steer away from the main road, hth, tt£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -
We are looking other places too...
Any views on: Porth /Tylorstown/Ferndale?
I posted on another board but keep getting anti-Welsh comments. What is the matter with people? I know girls going to Welsh uni's based on the hunkiness of your rugby players! Why are people so rude about Wales!

i think its jealousy!Trophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.
Then 3 come along at once!!!!0 -
I've heard stories of the Welsh being less than hospitable to the English too. In some communities they really don't like you if you don't fit in.
My siter-in-law moved to a predominantly Welsh speaking area and really didn't feel comfortable for several years. And she IS Welsh but doesn't speak the language fluently. I think she's accepted as a local now but it has taken about ten years!
It's a bit small minded but you might experience some people who really don't like "Saes".
Jealousy might have something to do with it. A friend of mine used to be a primary teacher in Aberdare. One of the girls in her class was bullied terribly because she was the only kid, out of 30, whose father had a job!0 -

Tylorstown & Ferndale are pretty similar to Merthyr (only about 30 minutes drive away) in the Rhondda Fach area. A new bypass has made road access a lot easier to them nowadays.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -

Read the thread again and I cant see where you "keep getting anti-welsh comments".
The house prices in Merthyr and surrounding areas are cheap for a reason - the reason is nobody wants to live there.
That is not anti-welsh.0 -
