Installing an OS

Ive just bought a new pc that will be delivered without an operating system. I have a genuine windows XP and Windows 7 installation dvd(s)

Is the process simple as just inserting the dvd into the drive? I thought I should ask now as when it comes I will be without the internet until I get it up and running.

Do you have genuine retail licences to go with those discs or did you get them free with another computer?

Once again someone asks on here how to install windows OS on a computer and the first answer is

    is it genuine?

What business is it of yours whether it is genuine or not?

To the OP, just boot from the DVD and follow the on screen instructions.

The is it genuine question is relevant, because it won't work otherwise

Going back to XP on a new W7 machine might not work either, depends if drivers are available, and you may not benefit from the full features of the machine with an old OS - don't recommend going backwards.

W7 can be made to appear much like XP if required, the ui is not that different.

It's a valid question to ask.

If it's not, then the OP may run into difficulties with validation. It's amazing how many users don't understand Windows licensing.

Also some would prefer not to offer help & support to pirates.

It may not be as simple as that, as you may need to change a BIOS setting.
Installiing SP1 can be an annoyance, as you then have to add the Service Packs. But once you have the machine, I will help with the installation and activation.

Not sure which Motherboard is installed or whether there are XP Drivers available. We will see and overcome any issues.

Have a few blank CD-R and DVD media to hand.
