It's easy- just buy Korean/Japanese and avoid French at all costs. I bought my Rover 600 with 12 months MOT in Feb for £500 and it hasn't missed a beat- good luck, you can do it!0 -
Never buy a van or big estate! If you do, your list if friends will expand, all your friends will want you to help them move, pick up, carry and deliver heavy stuff for them all around the uk for the cost of a beer.0

Sounds amazin Jim, would love to find something like that0 -

My latest car is also a Rover - uncool, undesirable and cheap. If you can get cheap insurance and don't do mega miles consider a larger car (as you aren't competing with all the youngsters who can only insure small cars.) Although Bluesnake makes a good point - don't get anything that'll set you up as a free courier company!0

I quite fancy a rover 75 some cheap ones going on autotrader0

I bought an old Merc C-Class. £1000, chain cam so no worries there. One owner from new, FSH, no rust, leather etc and it's been mint. Needed nothing in 15,000 miles now.
Love a good old school barge. Swallows all the luggage too. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Cheap to buy but wont be cheap to run.

You have had a very lucky escape!!! Years ago I went down the finance route - NEVER, EVER again! TBH I was ripped off, paid over the odds for the car in the first place and then spent the next 4 years paying for the thing at a ridiculous rate, I was young and naive and wanted a shiny newish car and I learned the hard way!!
These days I save and then buy and have worked my way up to a couple of nice cars all bought and paid for. Both are used cars. Both are large cars too - can be picked up very cheaply now as people strive to save by buying small economical cars - the barges are coming down in value. Mind you, I do around 6 000 miles a year, so not alot to worry so much about fuel costs, and insurance is surprisingly cheap too!0
