Highly unlikely anyone will come to your house. Having a settled default is better than an unsettled one so pay it off as soon as you can.
So you believe that having no opportunity to remove the default whatsoever, still makes it a good idea to settle and suffer in silence for 6 years? Why not say, here's the money in full, IF you agree to remove the black mark? No removal = No payment, the choice is theirs.0 -

Yeah - like that's gonna work. They're hardly going to agree to removing the "black mark" before receiving payment. They could agree to removing it after receiving payment but they're hardly likely to - what's the incentive for them to do that??0
