had the exact same problem with my Dell PC this week. Error message appeared after windows update.
Phoned Dell customer support on 01344 373727. They were excellent. Talked me through various options and eventually diagnosed that I needed a new hard drive. Told me how to remove this.
New drive and all discs to reinstall windows and drivers etc received via courier next day.
Dell technician called me back and agreed suitable time to talk me through reinstallation. True to word he called me back. About an hour later I was up and running with everything I needed.
Give them a phone as you will probably find the PC is under warranty and they will help you.
Good luck
