Download the diskette image you need, and if you need assistance creating a bootable diskette from this image, visit the how-to page.

you would need to be able to connect the hard disk from your sisters PC into yours as a "slave" , means moving a pin on the back, and then running chkdsk from your c:

you need to open up your pc and see if there is a spare IDE connector on the lead to your hard disk,

if theres no power lead spare then you could use the one off your CD drive to get power

Thank you for all your help and patience!

I can't find mine but could ask around, she has the xp key on a sticker on her computer so would she have to use that?

Also would it be someones recovery disc I need?

you will need the sticker if you need to reinstall windows.

wouldn't you be able to put the recovery file that Browntoa suggested on a usb key and try that way, after selecting boot from usb or whatever it is in the bios

all we need to disk for is to boot into the recovery console, then hopefully Chkdsk will fix the problem and it will boot under it's own steam

If you get stuck tell me by monday and I'll post you a spare copy of Dell Xp i have (only 1....in case any one else thinks of messaging me for a copy !!)
