good morning. Fuddle sounds like your getting back into the swing of things. I hope your feeling better.
It looks lovely outside, but when I opened the door there was froston my car. Its windy too, but at least no rain.
Me and DD are doing a carboot today, we will need to be there for 830am, even tho the car boot doesn't start until lunchtime. As its nice, I expect it will be busy. Well im hoping it will be. This is a new start for me, so everything we don't need we are selling, the cash will be handy too.
Well must get sorted, lots to do and then work for later on.BSC member 137

Morning all
Mrs L the rhubarb comes out great in the excalibur and does save a bit of space in the freezer.I have tried drying some frozen veg too as my freezers were bursting and so far have had great success with sweetcorn, peas and french beans, all taste just as good when rehydrated the boys never even realised what they were eating *shhh*0 -
Morning Everyone
White rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits - a pinch and a punch for the first of the month, no returns!
May already - where is the year going? It still fees like March in the morning here, but afternoons have been sunny and warm. I have been sowing seeds into pots and modules, but the earth is still cold so holding off planting anything much into the ground. I was in the garden 7 hours yesterday, still so much to do!
I find that Mary Berry's all-in-one Victoria Sponge to be very good and reliable. I use the cooking block from Aldi and their eggs, which makes it nice a cheap. You can make it lemon or coffee quite easily, so is a great recipe when you need a quick cake. Here it is
I hope everyone has a good day!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -

Might be a silly question, but how do you store things once you have dehydrated them? Bags? Jars? And do you have to soak to rehydrate in the case of veg which you want to cook? Can you dry berries and use in baking at some point?0 -
I use that MB recipe too, it always turns out well. Fuddle cut the walnuts out of a coffee cake if you are saving money.
We've sorted out the children's rooms at last, so upstairs is less depressing, and we've also been lucky enough to be given a complete summer wardrobe for both of them by my SIL and a friend. SIL and co are very well-off and DS's clothes are all Abercrombie & Fitch and such like - DS will never have heard of them but they are lovely looking clothes nonetheless. It won't continue forever though so let's hope he doesn't get used to it, he won't be getting designer labels from me.0 -
Hi all - Monnagran Have a lovely well deserved holiday and R E L A X!!
peanut When DH comes to revamp the inside of your 'camper' there's a number of caravan breakers on t'net where you can pick up bits & pieces for the inside & Preloved & Gumtree have good bargains too and try Freecycle - its always worth a punt.
Fuddle You are such a kind and thoughful person - hope your day goes well with your old boss (sure it will)
Right - I'm off to finish my packing as DS1 will be picking us up at teatime to fly off to Israel tomorrow (spending night at hotel - his treat!) so enjoy the Bank Holday weekend all you Toughies & I'll lob some sunshine over (esp to Mardatha - as she's sorely in need of some)
Hugs to allSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Alfsmum if I dry stuff to brittle for longterm stores its normally ok to store in jars,I use bags if I'm going to use it quickly or lock'n'locks for medium term storage.
I tried some of my frozen berries but they turned to mush but fresh are brilliant so I plan to do this with a lot of mine this year as I love specialk redberries but won't pay their prices lol
The frozen ones however are fine for making into leathers which are too nice and I can't make them fast enough!
I dry my own blueberries too now and use them in muffins I just chuck a handful in dried no need to bother rehydrating first as they do as they bake.
For the veg I stand in boiling water first for about 10 mins then bring to the boil and procede as for fresh HTH D X0 -
